The tide was still pretty far out when I arrived, and I got my line in the water by 5:45. The wall of seaweed was behind me so I knew time might be limited.
I set a personal record for my earliest fish caught as I hooked a small perch (and returned it to its home) by 5:55. I almost immediately caught a second… two by 6:00
Small perch would be the theme of the day. Between 5:55 and 8:00 I pulled in 7 perch, all them on the small side. By that point the water had reached the seaweed washed ashore overnight, currents were picking up, and crowds were growing. Time to pack it in.
I left the mussels at home and caught everything on lugworms and Gulp camo worms. I found a few small crab beds, but digging only got me very large crabs. They all had roe, but the large crabs and small hooks (#4 mosquito) only guarantee clean nibbles and no hookups for the smaller fish. Looking forward to the smaller crabs showing up en masse, hopefully in another couple weeks.
Beautiful morning, weather wise. It never gets old.
