Not the greatest report for Mission Beach this morning from 6:30 until about 9:00. Very cold air temperature, so much that I eagerly anticipated getting my feet in the water after re-baiting to warm back up. Never thought I’d say that with regards to the Pacific Ocean!
Calm surf, mild currents, but just enough junk in the water to accrue on the line as it sat and make it heavy. Nothing was snagging hooks or the line outright, but I was regularly pulling it off my sinker and rod tip. I had a tough time finding any good spots, although that may have been as much because of the low tide and surf as it was the recent storms. I suspect conditions won’t be much better through next weekend, although I do intend to attempt fishing the lowest tides next Friday and/or Saturday evenings.
Just one fish caught today, a small perch in the middle of the session. Very few bites throughout the morning, a couple strong tugs but nothing that would go back for a second or third try at either the mussels or lugworms. At least I beat the skunk!!
Chatting with all of the folks in town from other parts of country kept me from complaining too much about the temperature, ha. It could certainly be worse.

Re: Mission Beach 12/28
I know about those cold mornings, where the water is warmer than the sand... Sand burns the feet, while the water actually feels good.jwacky wrote: Sun Dec 28, 2025 12:04 pm Very cold air temperature, so much that I eagerly anticipated getting my feet in the water after re-baiting to warm back up.
