5/23-Not close to Murray
I could fish Lake Murray roughly 20 times vs one time on the round trip distance going from my house to the Lake of D & K, but it is always a fun adventure which makes it worth it. And besides, it is always a pleasure to run into fellow SDFish folks like @Fisheromen and @Mcfish. Started off kind of slow(what's new) missing a couple and finally landing one. I tried some reaction baits and they were basically useless. After a few more mis-hook sets, I finally started to land a few on plastic worms. Since I had luck before up there with craw baits, I stuck to using them for way too long as I kept thinking of previous trips and even over the years of bass gobbling up the craw baits. Not even a single bite on a crawbait which was really a bummer. Back to plastic worms which was a little better. I say a little better because @Mcfish was not far from me using plastic worms and was pulling in bass after bass. Somebody needs to tell McFish that this is not Lake Barrett...ha ha. It was like me and him were fishing on 2 different lakes....but my hats off to him.
Anyway, besides the usual missed fish,(one bass did snap my straight braid in some rocks...no doubt a 10lb'er...ha ha) I ended up landing 12 bass. Biggest bass was 3lbs on the button, but most of the bass were clones or small. It was funny as I had to return to a rock pile across the lake for my final 2 bass... but not far enough to hear McFish in the distance saying "fish on!" a number of times.
Simply beautiful!

Re: 5/23-Not close to Murray
It was crazy that I could not even get a bite on a crawbait. I hovered a rock pile for well over an hour where I have had
luck with crawbaits over the years and not even a tap. Oh well....better look into getting some of the crawbaits that
you are using........bass at this lake must be tired of my Googan and Strike King craws.....ha ha

I was there bank fishing to the left of the launch ramp and saw you guys come in. Heard something like float tube vs air craft carrier
.
Seemed like the ranger just wanted to talk and talk and talk. I left with 8 from the bank in 2 1/2 hours, biggest like 2 1/2#

Oh that is funny! The Ranger and McFish were messing with me when I said the float tube has an advantage especially in the wind because the kayak gets blown right and left where the tube stays more stable. That is when the ranger said my kayak was like a giant air craft carrier on the water. All in good fun. 8 bass from the shore sounds great! Maybe I should leave my air craft carrier at home next time and shore pound? Re: 5/23-Not close to Murray
Many decades ago my father and I would drive right by the entrance of Sutherland and head to Lake Henshaw. Caught many bass at
Henshaw mostly using Creme plastic worms, Bombers, Waterdogs(a hard bait( and Sonics. Then I went with a buddy a few times to
Sutherlandand had a blast but it was a long drive so we mostly fished El Cap and San V back then. I always remember going to
Sutherland though through the years and seeing and hearing wild donkeys and more recently, lots of horses. It really is a peaceful
and beautiful lake.
