How is March in the bays?

Post by Phxangler »

Hello, I have a couple of days off this week. Wondering how the bay fishing is in March. I can’t find much info. Is it worth the drive from Phx? I am open to either SD bay or Mission. Anything would be fine. Salt water is still cool for me, so I don’t care what I catch. Thanks in advance, you guys have helped me avoid the skunk the last couple of times.

February and January was red hot in South San Diego Bay, had several days from the float tube with >50 fish, one day with 90. Has slowed down a lot, would expect to catch 10-20 spotties if I went out. I am not fishing this weekend or next (other things going on) but if I was, I would probably fish from Bayside Park. It's always hard to tell how well things are going to be.

From reports, it sounds like the inland lakes are picking up. Not sure what it is like in Phoenix area but that should turn on soon too. You don't say how you fish but float tube, kayak or boat will usually help a lot compared to the shore.

Thanks for that. I will probably bring my kayak. I could live with just a couple of spotties. It has been cold and rainy here in AZ this past week. March is kind of a tough month here it seems. Thanks for the Bayside park recommendation.
