Catchy Saturday 9-14

Post by JWall »

Quick report and sorry it won’t help the guys today. Slow senko morning for us in Pine at previously good spots. But there was a pattern as we came across Dave Early Release and he was slaying them on jerkbaits. We flipped over to Hauser about 9:30 and worked the banks for schoolie sized biters all the way back into the big bay where we ran into Shawnster and his crew. His gal and young Theo were pounding them a tad deeper so we set up shop about 100yds away and joined the catching. We got a nicer grade just past the brush line on a variety of lures but I had tied on a texas rigged pumpkin/purple baby brush hog that somewhat matched El Prowler 619’s catchy lizard from earlier trips. It got hit constantly for about an hour, 5 bass in 6 casts at one point. Anyway we called it a day about 2 with 55 total and headed for the barn. We noticed other boats back there splashing up a storm too so thinking everyone had a very catchy day once they found the fish and the right patterns.

My brush hog was on a 10lb fluoro rig with a 1/16oz bullet sinker T-rigged. I have been bringing a braid to 12lb flouro stick, a BFS braid to 10lb fluoro stick and a 12lb mono rig for heavier stuff and topwater. I usually have an 8lb option but Barrett bass haven’t been line shy at all this year or really ever. No sense losing a fat bass for light line if not necessary.

Hey, great job out there.
Always a fun day mixing it up and catching lots of bass. Enjoyed your report and of course enjoyed the part about the brush hogs. If I can stop looking and fishing shad balls in the middle of Murray, I will start tossing them again...ha ha
Looks like I missing out on a lot of fun not being out at Barrett. I think it is a great showing of sportsmanship when you have a lot of your friends out there with you bass fishing also where you can all share fishing stories, patterns that are working, spots, etc.
Developing friendly relationships on the water for some people (like @Mcfish )it not easy but it looks like you guys are all having fun. ....
Anyway...thanks for sharing and tight lines always. :-)

Vinny, come out there with us. It's an easy launch for a kayak and the fishing is great, but like you said there's a lot of great people who fish there.

I'll just add to John's post, since I didn't get around to posting. I did have good success on Saturday, but I went a bit rogue for me, and tied on a larger jerkbait, I had a lot of fun with a Megabass 110 in an odd purple-green.
Good fish on the 110.

Honestly, hard to imagine what this fish is thinking

Popper is still working, so I'm using it. :)

Water temp has dropped a bit, it was down to 73F in some spots. Air temp was a chilly 46F when we got there.
