June 8th bite
Trying out my brothers Pro Angler. I normally have a double seater mirage that I use. It is lighter but definitely not as stable as the pro angler. Going to have to get a pro angler. It was definitely easier on my back than my old mirage. Headed out in the dark and through the fog. Spent a bunch of time looking for pins minnow. Did the pull the line to test to see if it was weak. Broke the line and found a section that was not flawed. Tied it on and tossed it in the water to cast. Tied it to the wrong line. It floats so not that big of a deal unless you are using a flashlight in the fog and makes it impossible to see. Found a bob cat on the rocks and was kind enough to stand up for me to take a picture. Morning was nice and cool. Caught 26 by 9 AM. The jerk bait was working and got on a top water bite. Caught many of them on the IMA skimmer walking bait. They would bust and you would cast on them and get bit. Tried blind casting but did not get any that way. Trick was to cast on them when they were chasing something. After that did not find a honey hole. Fishing the edge with a texas rigged worm seemed to work the best. Would hit the edges and it would get hit on the fall most of the time. 4 lbs was my biggest. Caught a bunch of almost 4. Stayed till the end left with 51, so caught 25 from 9 to 7.

Re: June 8th bite
Nice bobcat picture. I was at Barrett once when there were apparently 2 bobcats (maybe mountain lions, couldn't see them) having a screaming match. This went on for about 1/2 hour and you could hear it all the way on the other side of the main channel. Whatever they were saying to each other clearly wasn't very nice.
Another time I was fishing about 50' off the shore between Pig's and the dock. I looked at the shore and saw a heron. A few minutes later a coyote. And a few minutes later a juvenile mountain lion (definitely not a bobcat). As soon as it saw me, it started moving away so I got a picture but not a very good one.
And I have seen coyotes and deer there too.

That's a great shot of the bobcat. I really like Barrett partially because you do get to see a lot of animals, but I haven't seen a bobcat. That's really cool. Of course the fishing is pretty cool too.

We didn’t see the usual mammals there yesterday but my new-found birding fanatic glassed a big heron feeding a large, loud nest of babies with regurgitated fish she was prowling the shoreline for. A great show!!SSG Stubbs wrote: Mon Jun 10, 2024 10:20 am Never seen a mountain lion but love seeing the different wildlife there.
