Otay 3/20 - First time back in a couple years

Post by Pwy_FireCapt »

My first trip back to one of my favorite lakes in almost 2 years due back surgery. And, it was a good one.
The lake was completely different than I remembered. The areas I used to fish were now 5-8 ft deeper. A lot of the vegetation was totally different. Access to areas long overgrown were open.
Spent all my time in the shallows of Harvey’s. Lucky Craft Pointer 78 jerkbait did most of the damage.
Landed a 3.5, a couple 2+, and way too many runts to count.

Nice. Got a 3 back there too, also on a jb. Lost two 3's on underspins at the boat in Otay arm, otherwise fished a lot of top, which did not produce for me... yet!.

PS Algae bloom in full swing over entire lake, like it was when Hodges was really bad. Not as bad in far back of Harvey's.

Nice job and report! You didn’t miss much in those two years in my opinion. Fishing Otay wasn’t the easiest during this time due to its full capacity and stagnant water stage. I’m sure the fish were there and biting on some days, but getting back to them through the muck was one issue. It does sound like it’s coming around though. Its a great lake when it’s on.

Wow, it’s nice to see you posting again….. it’s been a while.Back surgery wow! Looks like you’re recovering well with lots of bass that you’re lifting into your boat. Yeah, there’s a lot of water in Otay and lots of areas for the bass to hide but it looks like you had a great time with lots of action.
Look forward to more reports and tight lines always

That’s my go to jerk bait! Had lots of success over the years at both Otay and Sutherland on it. Nice work!!
