San V 1/29 Way tougher day

Post by Moose »

Bluebird skies + ZERO breeze until 2:30 - an algae bloom + 20ft visibility = Tough fishing!

Hit the ground running this morning with a fish on my 4th cast of the day slow rolling a spinnerbait from deep to shallow. As it got lighter it was obvious that there was no algae bloom going on so the water was back to being super clear so I pulled out the dropshot rods early. I did manage to get 5 more before 9:30 or so when the sun got high. Between 9:30ish and 3:00 I managed only two more bites and missed both.

Ran around to a few different areas and it was the same for me…..nothing. Headed back to my starting area about 3 and quickly got another 2 and missed another two before heading in at 4. Big difference from last week size wise as well. Thursday my best 5 went just under 15lbs. Today my best 5 were just over 8lbs with a big of only 1.85

Ran into Rippinlips at the dock. Nice to meet you Luke.
I have to apologize if I seemed short this morning when we met. I was distracted by battery issues I have been having and was wondering if the boat would start. Hope you had some luck out there today!

With the other 2 good reports today from 2 different lakes, I was thinking that mother nature was working her magic on the wildlife as a whole?
Your lake of choice is deeper with steeper banks. So maybe the other 2 warmed a litter better with this great warming trend we are having?
Anyway, glad you got some!
Thank you for your report!

Nice to meet you as well Keith. It was really tough for me yesterday. Landed two and lost two. I completely understand on the boat issues. Had my starter battery die recently and luckily had an extra trolling battery to pull from to get on the water. Didn’t get much fishing done today as I was helping my son getting unstuck from every branch in the lake on top of a few rat nests. Was also having fun with the new fish finder I installed the night before. Still time on the water I guess. I’ll get em next time. See ya out there

I remember those days when my son was younger and hooking every stick he could. Still to this day, and he’s 24, he seems to take pride in bringing in at least one limb from the bottom of the lake each time we go out! 🤣 But it always a great day when you get your kids out on the water with you!

Intresting. Last year this time (late January early Feb) I was catching them very shallow. 5-10ft. I wonder , with the alage gone, if the shallow bite is going to show. I will let you know on Saturday!

Just for the hell of it I went shallow and just kind of ran the shoreline looking around and I only saw two fish shallow in 20ft visibility. There were more shallow a few weeks ago. I was kind of surprised because the water was up to 62 later in the day.

Didn’t make it out today, camping with the family. Will be back on my usual schedule next week.
