Last Minute Trip With Grandon And His Buddy

Post by Midnightpass »

Grandson called me Friday night and asked If I'd like to do a little surf fishing with him and his buddy... His buddy is a fisherman but hadn't surf fished since he was younger... My Grandson supplied all of the gear for him to use... We decided on fishing the inside and outside of Alamitos Peninsula (Long Beach)... Inside I got 2-large jack smelt, and Grandson's friend 1-jack smelt... Wanting to catch something other than smelt we hopped over to the open ocean side... There the friend had the hot stick, he caught 3- medium to small corbins, 1-YFC and a dink sand bass... My Grandson finally broke the skunk with a small sand bass as well... I wrapped it up with a 18" halibut... The some what newbie out fished us old hands... Fun time fishing with my Grandson and meeting his buddy... Most of the fish were caught on blood worms, while the smelt seemed to prefer ghost shrimp...

I think a halibut out fishes the other catches.

To me a corbina always trumps a halibut... But that's me, I know others target 'butts, but I love fishing for corbina, with a side of spot fin croaker. :)

Thanks Mike... Don't know who put who on fish, but it was really fun to fish with Kyle (and his buddy)... I haven't done it as much as in the past, and I really miss it... Happy New Year back at ya....
