pier bonito?
It's around that time of the year again ...any word of bonito appearing at any of the local piers?

Re: pier bonito?
I heard a few bonito caught at Marina del Rey (not technically a pier) in LA over the last couple weekends (at least one of them was using live sardines).

Re: pier bonito?
I’ve been going to the Oceanside pier once a week for bait, regular Mack’s are around. I’ve talked to a few of the regular pier guys, no bonito yet.
Re: pier bonito?
i think this year the water still too cold for them to come in, usually they here around this month already
Re: pier bonito?

Re: pier bonito?
Good news! Hopefully they move their way south like OB pier and IB pier.xCremlin wrote: Sat Aug 26, 2023 12:54 pm from another post people are catching bonito at oceanside pier, look like the bonito is here

Re: pier bonito?
July is the time of the year you associate with bonito? I'm not saying that is wrong, just news to me.returnofthemackerel wrote: Mon Jul 17, 2023 9:05 am It's around that time of the year again ...any word of bonito appearing at any of the local piers?![]()
For me, from past experience, people don't typically start catching bonito consistently from the shore or piers (assuming they show up) until mid to late September.

That's good, that means there's still time then, especially to prepare.Jenx wrote: Sun Aug 27, 2023 4:46 amFor me, from past experience, people don't typically start catching bonito consistently from the shore or piers (assuming they show up) until mid to late September.returnofthemackerel wrote: Mon Jul 17, 2023 9:05 am It's around that time of the year again ...any word of bonito appearing at any of the local piers?![]()

Re: pier bonito?
I do remember last August at IB pier the bonito already showed up, but were smaller sized like mackerels. They were getting caught with sabiki-type rigs with the green feathers.Jenx wrote: Sun Aug 27, 2023 4:46 amFor me, from past experience, people don't typically start catching bonito consistently from the shore or piers (assuming they show up) until mid to late September.returnofthemackerel wrote: Mon Jul 17, 2023 9:05 am It's around that time of the year again ...any word of bonito appearing at any of the local piers?![]()

Re: pier bonito?
2017 was an awesome year at OB with bonito-sized mackerel (really fun to fight on light tackle) and larger grade bonito as well. 2020 was a good year too where I caught my first limit of bonito.xCremlin wrote: Sat Sep 09, 2023 11:03 pm pier is fully open, just fish this morning but water is murky so nothing around

IB pier is fully open also, I wonder when that happened and if there were any epic bites since then.xCremlin wrote: Sat Sep 09, 2023 11:03 pm pier is fully open, just fish this morning but water is murky so nothing around

Re: pier bonito?
Any size to them Mike? Thanks for the update, even if I'll probably never get over there to fish them...
