7/23 MB South Shores

Post by Zach »

A 0530 launch turned into a 0730 launch because I was dreaming about fishing instead of actually fishing; the bite was better in my sleep.

It was an overcast morning with the fiesta island beach filling up fast. The sun looked like it wanted to come through, but just an hour later we got some scattered showers. I've been watching the weather reports religiously, but this drizzle must have fell off everyone's radar. Still, a welcome reprieve from the heat.

I landed two for the session, broke off one and missed three. The one that broke off dug deep into the eel grass. I tried every angle and even let the slack out for a few minutes so it could make its way out. After 10 minutes of resistance the line finally snapped. The misses I imagine were just short strikes; they weren't all that big in the stretch I was fishing.

In addition to, I was testing out some new gear—a crate system for the back, an anchor trolley, and a quick release fashioned anchor system with float. All worked out well. Spent about 6 hours on the water in total, and would have stayed longer if it weren't for a pounding headache that I'm blaming on the weather.

I was using a 1/4 oz warbaits weedless jighead in DCP with a Z-Man 4" Curly Tailz in Space Guppy.

You can be just as productive from shore. Read these; it's from dj thrillz circa 2013/2017. Much of it still applies, and will let you land more fish.

They should frankly be stickied on these forums somewhere.

Yes, found it much easier coming back in at the end of the day. Good luck out there next weekend. I was getting hit the most between Turtle Reef and the Penguin Encounter as way points.
