SD River & more

This month I have been fishing alot at the SD river. I have spent a few trips to Sa V and Hodges also . I've been concentrating my efforts almost exclusively to finesse jigs. I have had considerable success with a round ball head in sizes less than 1/8 oz with weedgaurd and trimmed down skirts and using Yamamoto Floater worm (senco) or the floater ned worm as trailer to jigs The full Senco on a floater worm looks ridiculous on a 1/8 or lighter finesse jig but it flat out catches fish The small ned on the trailer for 1/16 oz even caught a huge crappie at the river.I tried to include some pics.

Finesse jigs are fun to fish, because they get a lot more bites. I use them at our small city ponds and have had some pretty nice fish inhale it, but the 1 pounders have no problems smacking them.

Problem is, it seems the only ones you can find readily available are the Keitech series of finesse jigs.

I have quite a bit of a collection, but the vast majority seem to originate from overseas, and it hurts when you're snagging 8 dollar tungsten jigs.

Nice job out there @DarkShadow. I fixed the pics and looks like you are having lots of fun on the water.
Finesse jigs working for you and that's great! The bass see so many worms and they probably think..hey..what
the heck is this and gobble it down. I caught some bass earlier in the year on Keitech swim jigs and have lots
of other jigs(small and big)that have not touched the water in years and need to get back in the water .

I have been buying tungsten ball head jig heads from amazon . Its a harmony product and I can get just about any small size I would need and get them 5 for about 11 bucks. I buy in bulk skirts . I like the nice gap in the hooks and they come weedless. The hooks are long and not just small crappie hooks. plus being tungsten. And like I said Yamamoto has come out with floater worms that i have been having good success with> When used with a 5.5 Floating Senco but on that small ball head it gives the bait some profile.

That's smart! I perused Amazon and found that the smallest size they make is a 1/4 ounce.

The finesse stuff I usually throw starts at 1/8th and goes down to 1/16th. The little ponds that I use these at are no more than 5 or 6 feet, and some of them have some gnarly lay downs, and when you're fishing from shore, and are constantly getting snagged, I find going down to a lighter weight does the trick.

Lately I've been using this Jackall finesse jig in heavier cover, because of the heavier than average brush guard:

I'm usually in the .9 to 3.0 grams range. That heavier stuff has obliterated them in the Colorado River chains simply because when you're throwing 6# FC, I tend to scale down. The smallies seem to love all that stuff when you scale down with your line size and your bait.

I really like the Nako tungsten weights…and I order directly from Nako, which is a heck of a lot cheaper than some of our local fishing shops. I’ll have to check out some of their jigs. I will have to check out some of the Amazon prices also.
