Mission Beach 1/18

Post by jwacky »

Another beautiful, calm morning at Mission Beach. High tide, low surf, relatively calm currents. Other than a couple early clumps of grass, similar to yesterday, the water was clean.

Little to no easily observable structure makes things a little tricky but patience pays off. Took a while for the bite to pick up, but when it finally did I pulled in three perch (all very small) and two jacksmelt.

The jacksmelt are fun with how much they tug your line around as you’re bringing them in, and my second one popped out of the water shortly after hook set. Pretty looking fish, for sure. A seagull tracked it for a few seconds before changing its mind, ha.

Dried lugworms were the bait du jour. I was using mussels as well but they weren’t getting much action. That was the case yesterday, as well.
