Barrett report June 11
Cloudy, grey day at Barrett today, although thinking about it, most of them have been this year. This one had intermittent wetting, not drizzle, but maybe rain-light.
Got to try out my very classy human baggie rainsuit. If you are ever cold, put one of those on. You will be steamy by the time you get it apart and in it.
I was on the water at 4:50AM. Pedaled the kayak over to the opening at Hauser and didn't get any activity until almost 6AM. Got a few on smaller jerkbaits. The only bait I could see today was really small minnows, never found any bait of size. Got a couple over the next hour on jerkbaits. As usual, I had no success with poppers. Sadly no success with the much loved Whopper Plopper either. Gave up on that area and went over to Pine arm. Did dropshotting/jigs along the way and minor results. Got to Pine Arm and saw a boil out in the middle of the area where I think the cannon used to be. Threw the jerkbait and something peeled off drag impressively and then was gone. Felt good so I was encouraged to throw the jerkbait for longer than I should have done. Finally gave up and did a medium diving crankbait. This was the ticket. Got 14 more fish on a chartreuse shad mid size crankbait. All were the usual suspects in the 2 pound range, which are a lot of fun.
Water temp averaged about 70F. Clarity is actually pretty good too. Talked to a few people and results were about the same as mine, but no clear pattern, most were on worm variants. Good luck out there. Remember these cold days in August/September when it's 100 on the water.
