Barrett Lake June 11th report

Post by Early release »

Been remiss in reports. Apologies. Headed out on Wednesday in the dark with the usual suspects and a few new friends.
Light wind and about 65F, the water, a pleasant 73F at the surface. Chuck and I headed across the lake and worked some of the main lake shoreline. He had some success on jigs and I had some on plastics early, but as soon as there was some light, we went topwater and had a great time. I was using a walking bait and he was using a whopper plopper. Apparently more than one person used the whopper plopper because that lure was working yesterday.

We both headed back into Hauser and went to separate corners, where I started fishing with the 4# ultralight and a #5 Rapala and catching all sorts of bass from .75 to 2 pounds. Then I went to the sticks and reused topwater. It worked all morning. Most hits came on the pause or the landing, except for a very fun blowup Chuck had as he was taking the lure out of the water. The fish missed, but it was a lot of fun.

Wind did come up and by 1000 it was quite miserable, so I was done. I seem to like a light breeze at most. Temp might have been 80F and the water got up to 76 at the surface. Have fun out there.

Big girl for the day, wish she was eating better, she could be bigger.

Thanks for the details Dave. The fish are getting aggressive, twice last trip I hooked a fish simply picking up a rod with the lure hanging just out of the water. Thats beyond topwater! 😂

The whopper plopper is the best because you can pause it, they will track it, especially the darker profile.

Let’s not forget all the crawler baits he(Chuck) helped sell the last couple of seasons. 😂
