Hodges 4/19
Met the homie @Early release at Hodges this morning for a little bassin. Was the first one at the gate around 4:50am. I have taken three trips prior to today to Hodges in 2025 and had nary a fish between them. The day started with a spinnerbait snagged and lost and no bites to be found on my perennial Hodges favorites. I normally don’t event bring the finesse stuff to Hodges cause I’ve had success there almost 100% power fishing. Last night when I was packing everything I decided to grab a couple packs of finesse plastics just in case. They ended up saving my day. I was feeling like a skunk was coming and I started just pitching no sinker rig plastics up against the shore. After about 5 minutes, I get one and it’s a solid postspawn fish. Two casts later, one about 3.5 pounds. Tacked on 3 clones and started kicking back to the ramp around 10:30. I can’t complain about a 5 fish day, especially since my catches mostly came in a short window. I made something out of nothing and had a very fun morning. Finished with 5, best going for 3.5ish.

Nice job adjusting and bagging some quality fish. Hodges was my home lake back in the 80’s and 90’s and power fishing was the thing. But I was thinking just this week when I came across some smoke reapers tipped in a bit of chartreuse; I know they would have worked well back then and Im betting now more than ever. Now we just need that dam fixed and more water!

Fished under the big bird on Saturday. Remember saying good morning to you. I told my wife about the eagle and she says why didn't you take a pic. Only four Saturday for me. Best was 3lbs 9oz Dude it's been so long since I caught a good one I thought it was over 5lbs. Weird every trip seems like I have a good fish that just comes undone. Love Hodges.

Every time I caught a fish on Saturday, both spots, I looked up and the eagle was there. It was a good luck charm of sorts.Sammy wrote: Mon Apr 21, 2025 9:48 am Fished under the big bird on Saturday. Nice job out there. It’s funny but kind of the same thing happened to me at Sutherland. I geared everything heavier for rocks, trees, stick ups and didn’t really plan to take any finesse baits. But at the last second I grabbed just a handful before leaving my house and tossed them in my kayak. I only wish I would’ve brought more because that was what was working. Hope my Kayak doesn’t sink from the amount of extra things I’m gonna bring on my next fishing trip ha ha
Anyway, thanks for sharing and tight lines always.
