Casting or spinning ?
What is the intended target ? Spotties in the bay . Larger fish in the surf ?
What weight lures do you anticipate ? 1/2 oz or 5 oz ?
There is a wide array of rods that all fit , Swim bait , classification . Need to narrow it down a bit .
There are lots of rods out there that will work for a general do it all type as well . Most Salmon and steelhead rods do a pretty good job in general and work well for tossing soft baits as well .

I recently got a Shimano Teramar 8' MH extra fast action, its stiff, and its very quality. I also got the 8' heavy, moderate fast. Great rods

I’ll be using a spinning rod I aim mostly for spottiea and halibut I don most of bay fishing and I’m Carlsbad lagoons. I have a m1 for bigger inshore fish. I can’t always go inshore so i mostly do shores. I mostly use like 1/4 -2oz lures or swim baits.
