First timer

Very excited to make my first trip June 19th. Bringing the kayaks down but unfortunately don’t have a pedal system so will be doing lots of paddling. A few quick questions.

How long is the paddle to the back of Hauser and is it even worthwhile if the wind picks up. Seems like your track home will be into it and not very fun.

If there is any wind can you “hide” on the main lake/pine arm?

Looking forward to meeting some of you. Appreciate those who diligently post reports/updates! Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

I’m a boat guy with the exception of a couple of tube trips over the decades. I will leave the advice to the plastic navy. But I will be most interested in the hiding feedback. There are very few places in a boat in my opinion.

It's tough from a yak when the wind picks up. I anchor down in my yak sometimes in a cove just to stop from getting blown everywhere. I know a lot of guys will call it a day when the wind starts picking up. Personally I don't go to the back of Hauser just cuz I'm lazy to pedal all the way back and there are fish to be had everywhere on the lake. Without a pedal system, I wouldn't go too far unless you can get towed back by a boat. I'm sure a lot of the guys there will help you. Good luck.

When I yaked it, if the wind got super bad, I’d find a point, beach it and fish the point from shore. Wind blown points can produce epic bites

Hi, I have one of those pedal kayaks and I will admit that there are days when I regret it if I went to the back of Hauser. It can happen to you gradually too, you might start working shoreline and then look up and you are deep in Hauser. But, If I was paddling, I wouldn't go that far. The wind seems to come up around 930-1000 and will go until late afternoon. So you can time it, if you want to wait for the calm winds again. Pack a lunch and take a nap, it's great. You can go back in the Wilson Creek area and it's usually a bit better further back and it's easy to get to. Like ehondax said, there are fish everywhere in that lake.
