Re: North County Halibut Advice
I catch most of my big Halibut in the Surf before the Sun comes out. When that gloom clears up the Big Halis tend to move onto a little deeper water. I also fish the morning after the Gruinion Runs. On the beach at 5am and done by 9-10am. I almost exclusively use 5 inch Pearl ZMan Streakz on 1/8 ...

Pacific Beach Thursday August 28
While walking the dog I watched a guy south of Crystal pier catch a corbina in the surf, so I figured I’d go fish some. I fished the surf south of Crystal pier, mostly in front of the lifeguard station, from maybe 8:30-11:00 this morning. I went under the pier for sand crabs and got 20+ with roe ...

Re: North County trips.
So, I had three trips to Del Mar and no other fishing since the last report. I enjoyed the fishing, but the story was just the same old thing. I haven't caught a spotfin in three consecutive trips, but it's been a long time since my last trip without at least one chunky corbina in the mix. It was ...

Pacific Beach Update
Got out Thursday am for a short session & to check for sand crabs under the pier. Lots and lots, micros to small; gathered up a bunch with roe & a few softies. Another close-by angler mentioned a lot of crab beds appeared at low tide a few days earlier. Tide was only about 1' incoming. Water felt ...

Re: Mission Beach 3/18
Nice conditions this AM notwithstanding a fairly strong surge from the SW swell. I'd like to think it was responsible for the lethargic activity. Just a lot of taps & bait stealing from dinks in the nursery. Could not get a decent hit on mussel meat, dried lugs nor Gulp sand worm. Picked off a ...

Spoon fed fishies
MB in the morning and decided to try a spoon fly. It produced, got a couple croaker, some spotties, and a small halibut (which came off when I tried to pull it into the tube by the leader). The takes seemed more aggressive on the spoon fly vs other flies this morning. It’s a relatively easy tie and ...

Halibut on the fly… in the surf
Hit up blacks this morning throwing out the fly in the surf… not great conditions with very choppy surf at close tidal intervals so there was a lot of sand messing up the clarity of the water. It was also an outgoing tide which is not my favorite but it was the only time and date I could go this ...

Spotties using new technique
My right hand has carpal tunnel and it's been painful casting and stripping line for extended periods of time.
I borrowed a technique used by stillwater guys, using a floating line, long mono leader, and break-away strike indicator. The idea was to adjust the leader length below the indicator to ...

February 2025 Lower Owens Trip
Went fly fishing on the Lower Owens river just outside Bishop California last weekend. The weather was awesome and the fishing was great… caught some wild brown and rainbow trout up to 15” long using a euro nymphing technique. The hot fly was a size 14 light brown thread frenchy with a pink 3.5 mm ...

Yak vs Power
I didn't want to bog down the "What Yak are you fishing?" thread with this question. Given the cost, size, and weight of some of these craft, what are the advantages over a small power boat? I'm not takling centerconsole but rather 12-14ft aluminium with a tiller 9.9-20hp motor. Easy launch, low ...

New Glide Angler iSup
Hi everyone
Used to be active on the old site. Mainly fished from kayaks and from shore. Been a few years since I've had a kayak, but recently got a Glide Angler iSup to hit the bays.
It's been a lot of fun and have been getting on some quality fish, like this keeper Halibut from Liberty Station ...

Zippered waders
Waders with zippers are typically $400 and up. Re: Zippered waders
I love my zippered waders! Absolute game changers. I found Paramount Outdoors over a year ago and the Deep Eddy Zippered Waders that I got from them are the best I have ever owned. After purchasing them I reached out to them telling them how much I loved them and let them know I make YouTube Videos ...

A browner shade of brown.....
South Bay Saturday.
Followed Gotfish around for a while on the Coronado side.
Managed 13 sbb, a short halibut, and the first one of these that I've got on a ScorcherZ tube bait (green).
And this one was much larger than any of the ones I've got on bait.

New tube ordered!
I finally pulled the trigger on a new float tube from Netherlands called Float Plus. Bladderless, dropstiched floor and seat, undermount motor ready, and they are installing the fold up wheels for me at no additional charge.
Of course I'll still have to glue on my fish finder mounting brackets ...

Rods marked down at Santee Walmart
Yeah, whatever.
There are a bunch of spinning and casting rods marked down, and there were a few Shimano Sienna reels for a couple dollars off. But the Lew's rods caught my eye. Especially the 6' 10" Medium action casting rod for ...$18.50.
I do NOT need another casting rod, but these things are ...

Not what I expected...
Managed to get out for a couple hours on the creek.
Previously, the new tiny fluke thing was getting whacked pretty consistently just flylining it.
Figured I would stick to dropshotting it this time out.
I mean, it looks like a shrimp or a bug or something anyway...
