Re: North North county?

I’ve been out there five out of the last seven days and I’ve had mixed results. On the shore I’ve caught tons of perch, but no Corbina in the lagoon. I caught a bass on Wednesday and got skunked today. Usually have really good luck around army Navy academy when the water warms up

Solana Beach 6/15

Midday trip to Solana Beach/Fletcher Cove for some fishing and family time. Sand crabs were a little tough to come by but caught 6 perch (personal record for a session!) on both blood and camo Gulp sand worms. Surf was on the heavier side, little bit of kelp, but all in all a fun day on the shore ...

North County trips.

I've gotten four of these in three trips and pulled the hook on about the same number. Frustrating. Using bigger-than-average sand crabs, which are a lot of work to find. But there doesn't seem to be an alternative.
Lots of other fish to catch. This morning, I tried the negative tide with a ...

Mission Bay 6/27

Nice, calm evening on the water tonight! Bigger crowds as we get into the heart of summertime but still plenty of room to fish.

Reeled in four total perch between my daughter and I. One for me on with a sand crab on my new rod and reel (went with a Penn Squadron III and Spinfisher VI), three for ...

Pacific Beach Tuesday July 1

I fished the surf Tuesday July 1 around 8:45-10:00 just south of Crystal Pier, tide rising from 8:55 0.6ft low. My first time out in about a month (had only one 15 minute session in all of June, which ended with a break off in a mass of kelp). Crabs plentiful everywhere, lots with roe. Grass was ...

NOC 07/01/25

Beach was shallow and flat with the falling tide..Found a nice hole with water coming in from both sides and a rip going out.. A nice trench running the length of it..Saw multiple corbina, so I tossed in a large pealed and crab….Shortly the line started heading north… It felt pretty heavy and was ...

Re: North County trips.

Krocodile is one of my favorites . You can use the single Siwash as supplied . I use a dressed treble that I tie that is almost the same length of the spoon . Just make sure the treble as it came from the factory has the single hook portion pointing to the concave of the spoon . Less snags . 5/8 oz ...

Re: Hook size for surf C-rig

I have recently switched to size 2 circle hooks from size 2 baitholder or even smaller hooks because I hate guthooking the poor fellows. I have lost a few fish, but it is worth it because with the circle hook, it is a lip hook every time. You could probably use a smaller hook but I think using size ...

Pacific Beach Wednesday July 2

I fished the surf about 9-10:30 Wednesday July 2 south of Crystal Pier over the low tide at about 9:30 at 1.3ft. A repeat of yesterday - light grass, low waves, plenty of crabs, slow bite, 3 BSP.

I didn’t mention yesterday in my post, thinking I was just being a wimp after not fishing for a few ...

Mission Beach 7/6

Been itching to get out, arrived around 6:30 and fished until 9:30 or so. Took a while to get any bites although I was feeling lazy and didn’t move much from where I set up. Ended up with three small perch on Gulp sandworms (blood) all caught very close to shore.

Still looking for my first fish ...

South Mission 7/6

On the sand at 6 am armed with blood worms & ghost shrimp. Was hoping the change in location and menu would get some better action than just hand size perch. Didn't disappoint. Very 1st cast with BW got an 18" corbina. Quite a few perch hits followed and nailed a few but bait stealers were winning ...

Re: South Mission 7/6

Nice! I too was at South Mission around this time. I tried to power through the high tide at 8:30 but got little to no action, so at that point I was mostly just enjoying the sun which had come out.

I did get a late, huge hit and saw the same silver you mentioned but I too lost it. Definitely ...

Re: North County trips.

Going surf fishing this afternoon. Not much strategy, but mostly sand crabs and shrimp, either in the troughs or shrimp flung out on the reefs.
Butch has me hoping it will be a corbina day for me, or my son. 20 inches or better, please!

A full moon and rush hour traffic might be a temptation to ...

Re: North County trips.

Fished North County yesterday. Fished from 5:15pm until 8 pm . Still a good amount of people in the water. Caught 4 perch and 1 corbina (9”) all on crab. All were caught in the 1st hour of fishing. Current was strong to the north. Bite slowed, switched to LC, nothing caught. Waves seemed pretty big ...

Mission and Pacific Beaches 7/9

Had a few leftover bloodworms getting ripe in the frig so headed out to MB this AM. Conditions not ideal, strong surge, somewhat dirty water & lot of salad. If not bit within 3-4 minutes, line loaded up with grass. Not that I was getting any bites, nary a nibble. After an hour decided to head up to ...

Re: South Mission 7/6

Nice! I've never caught a corbina, usually I get a bunch of different croaker and perch. I also have never used bloodworms, nor fished at mission beach. I am usually torrey pines or further north. Major newb question, how do you hook bloodworms? Do you put it through the center of the body or ...

Skunk In The OC…

Pretty disgusted with myself. :x … 2 perch nibbles at Huntington Beach is all.. I don’t know if it’s the colder water or what… But my fishing buddies been doing pretty much the same for the last week.. I did see a fly guy nail a pretty nice corbina, but that’s the only fish I saw today.. Gatherd ...

Re: Low tide success?

I am with you when it comes to enjoying the beach and ocean on those morning trips. I am not a "morning person", but I am if it's part of a Surf fishing trip.

One of the first good tips I got from an angler is that Del Mar fishes well at +3 feet. The tip wasn't particularly valuable as a guarantee ...

Re: Agua Hedionda Lagoon (Legal) Access

There's no legal access between the railroad and the freeway as far as I know.

You can shore fish the outer lagoon (West of the railroad tracks. .

If you have a kayak you can launch here:
agua hedionda lagoon ramp.jpg
The far eastern part of the lagoon is a reserve...no fishing.
