San V report on 11/13/23
Hello all,
Headed out to San V with John W today. Got started around 0730, because it's cold and there's no hurry when it's windy in the morning. Plugged around most of the day mixing small hardbaits (me) and softbaits (John). Not a whole lot of activity. Did pick up an impressive bluegill that ...

Re: San V report on 11/13/23
Hi Mcfish,
I hadn't thought about it, but you might be right, it could be a hybrid redear with a bluegill, because those grow pretty fast and are stocky.
The busters still were a lot of fun, of course more fun if you catch them, but John and I were certainly amused by the chase.

That's a very nice bluegill. A pure 'coppernose'. The redear and hybrids have speckles on the lower half of the body and face. All types are shown ...

Re: What kayak do you fish out of?
Hi Vinny,
I have an Old Town Sportsman 120 PDL. For me it's just about perfect. It's a good length and wide enough to be very stable, which I like. I have no issues to stand and cast and even can operate the pedals with my hand and troll along. It had good internal storage until I put the panoptix ...

Re: Local Pond hopping
I kind of think bass ( maybe fish in general ) have no concept of their relative size to something they might eat. I think they basically go with the idea of "if it fits in my mouth, it was a meal".

Re: Otay Ultralight 11/25
Those are some great bluegills. What did you catch them on?

Re: El Cap 11.24
Is it just me, or was this one of the quietest years of fishing in So Cal ?

Re: If you could only eat......
Probably Southern French, since I only get one. Otherwise I'd add Italian too. Although that's pretty much all I eat now.
Can I add Thai food?
And Vietnamese?
And Indian?
Oh man, shouldn't answer this question close to dinner time.

Re: El Cap 11.24
I spent beginning of the year at San V and got skunked twice, but after that, I pulled at least 5 fish each trip, until this fall, when the busters were looking for lures that resembled plankton. ( kidding, but they wanted small stuff ). Spent the summer chasing fish at Barrett and while I had a ...

Re: Go to bait
It's even in my picture, I am almost always throwing a #7 Silver Rapala first. I try to play about with a couple lures each trip out to just get more adaptable, but you can bet if I am fishing, my light spinning rod with 4# or 6# test mono and #7 Rapala are with me. #2 favorite is a popper, either ...

Re: Go to bait
What's funny to me, is when we last fished at San V together, you and I mostly used our favorite baits.

Re: Cool Bands you've seen "Live"
I lived in Chicago, which was a great hub for music. So I have a lot of those mentioned, but my first concert was Pink Floyd for their Animals tour which was a lot of sensory input for a first concert. :)

Re: Otay Sunday 12/17
I got a new BFS rod and reel this past month too, I need to get out there and try it. Maybe I'll head over to Otay, I have never fished it.

Re: Go to bait
Vinny, funny you mention "retiring" a bait. I was thinking I was alone in doing that, but after a lure has caught a lot of fish, I also retire them. The sad thing here, is that my retirees were in a box that has now been misplaced. I had planned to make a little shadow box of them for my office.

Re: Go to bait
John, I think the next time we go fishing, we should fish each other's favorite lures. Of course if one of us starts catching on the other's lure, you can switch back.
