Re: Crawdads vs. Jigs: Which Will Catch More Bass
Bait fishing is an art form for sure! I think it's funny when people look down on others for it. It is not nearly as easy as it appears. Like fishing shiners and getting them to go where you want. For that I just use a Jedi mind control technique, but everyone has their own ways.
Maybe I will ...

First time at Hodges in 2024
Had an awesome day at Hodges. Really fun chatting with Chris (AKA Pourboy AKA the BeefShaman) after fishing too.
I caught three small clone Largemouths (didn't even bother with pictures), but the highlight of the trip was this dinner plate crappie on my BFS rod and reel!

El Capitan 2/13/24
I usually fish Murray on weekdays because it is conveniently located by my kid's school. Murray, however, is closed the second Tuesday of every month so I ventured up to El Capitan.

Murray is heating up.
The bite at Murray has really turned on as the bass move into pre-spawn feeding.
I caught 13 over the last 2 days. Most were in the 2-3 pound range. They are feeding on the he bottom. I caught them on ned rigs, jigs, and 7" dropshot worms. Keep your bait close to the bottom in 15 to 20 feet of ...

Re: The rain
It's raining out there. Not too hard at this point, but a steady drizzle.
To fish or not to fish that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the body to suffer the slings and arrows of falling drops, or to take arms against a lake of Largemouth?
By the time you read this comment you will be ...

Awesome multi-species day 2/23/24
Had an awesome multi-species day BFS fishing at lake Murray. Ended up with 13 Bass and two Trout. I was throwing mini Ned rigs, and tiny jigs with TRD Crawz trailers. Most of the bass were in the 2 pound range with one over 3, and another close to 4 lbs. I have to admit, BFS has rapidly become my ...

They are just keyed in on jigs and small baits. Nice fish!bendopolo 44+ wrote: Sat Feb 24, 2024 1:15 pm I followed your lead and nailed this one plus 6 Clones on a 1/16 oz. Jighead and 4 inch Sluggo. 7 pounds 12 oz. Took me around the boat twice, jumped 4 hair raising times and had two drag screaming runs on six pound test.

Re: Awesome multi-species day 2/23/24
I set the internal brakes to the second mark and just fine tune the outer dial as needed depending on the weight I am throwing. I think that works for 95% of everything I have thrown. Also found that lob casting it better than flicking for me.

Re: 2/25 Otay & 2/26 Murray

Murray 3/20
I haven't posted for a while so I thought I'd share a few photos from my trip to Murray today. I ended up with 23 trout and 14 bass over the last 2 days there. All fish were caught on small jigs with my BFS gear. They just stocked trout again, and I spotted some bass on beds.
Fun times!

Re: Murray 3/20
It's my dream! I've been working on ways to throw bigger profile baits on BFS gear. Basically larger size without adding too much weight for the rod. I've discovered a few options.

Re: Lake Murray 12.3 pound bass caught.
As Vinny can attest I fish Murray from my float tube an average of 4 days per week. I regularly pull in good numbers of bass, with the occasional scattered 6 pounder plus. The numbers of fishermen on the lake varies from negligible to quite a few on weekends. Lots of shore guys showing up recently ...

Murray report 3/28
Most of you know I fish Murray 3-4 days per week. I am retired and I go there after dropping the kids off at school. I fish until it's time to pick them up and head home.
I've been averaging 7 fish per day almost exclusively BFS fishing. The most productive bait has been a tiny green pumpkin Brush ...

ps I'm in the same boat concerning A rigs, never thrown them, no interest in starting either.

Re: Murray report 3/28
Hey Dannicus, I'm with you on BFS, but I am willing to throw a double fluke, you take a 3-way swivel and do a dropper on your main line with a shorter terminal line. It's like the umbrella rig for the BFS crowd.
Nice report. We were there last week on Friday and didn't see you.
I'll have to try ...

Re: First time in the tube! Murray 4/6
I got my first float tube in 1981, and still doing it. Had a bass boat, inflatable dingy, kayak, and I just keep coming back to the tube. With the Bixpy motor underneath it I don't even have to worry about the wind. To me, it's the perfect fishing platform. That having been said, even after all ...
