Re: Culling others for bass.

Right, the bass that try to eat adult gills are the ones you find floating. It’s the small ones that get eaten. If big bluegills were regular meals for bass the fish at Barrett would be much healthier

Re: Culling others for bass.

From what you guys are saying, maybe I should start throwing something really big for bass. Maybe a disgusting rat lure like https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Savage_Gear_3D_Rad_Rat/descpage-SG3DR.html . Sounds like a lot more fun than finesse.

I remember years ago at Barrett, I was reeling in one ...

Re: 6/3- On the way to Murray....

I think El Cap tranlates to "Lake of Nasty stinkin wind". It can definitely be tough in the afternoons for kayaks, tubes, and aluminum boats! Some days reaction baits are the only thing you can throw on the nasty days. Congrats on picking up some fish in those conditions! They always say wind can be ...

Re: 6/3- On the way to Murray....

I love El Cap as a lake, but avoid it due to the wind. Back when I was younger it did not bother me as much. Oh how things change=)
Too bad about the bigger one coming off. That's what keeps up going back....next time.

Re: 6/3- On the way to Murray....

Vinny, do you have a quality lightweight anchor? I use an anchor Trolly that clips to my anchor rode with a Carabiner. That way you can drop anchor and slide it to the rear. Now you get to fish downwind at your spot. You can let the rode out 15 feet at a time to hit more area. Then pull it back to ...

Re: 6/3- On the way to Murray....

Anchor is key in the wind. I sold the pa14 after my shoulder replacement. I used my anchor all the time, especially setting up on points or rock piles. Super helpful in wind and light breeze for hitting every inch of a great spot.

Re: 6/3- On the way to Murray....

I have two anchors for my Kayak. One is a folding Grapnel, with a small length of chain for abrasion resistance. It is very light weight and effective in most situations.
The other is homemade. It is a 12 inch length of 1 1/2” galvanized pipe filled with sand and capped on each end with a hole ...

Re: 6/3- On the way to Murray....

Grapnel with about 3 foot of light chain. I forget the size of both the anchor and chain but it was pretty small. Chain is key but you can’t drop it straight down because it it pile on the anchor and it won’t set. Always drop it in a drift or pedaling away as you are letting it out. Yank on it to ...

Re: 6/6- Return to SD River

I followed the SD River on Google Earth to its path to El Cap.

How did you guys find your spots? Trial and error or did you get some guidance? It seems like any pooled up section could hold bass.

Good job!

I’m still a bass fisherman.

Just checking if I still can catch some bass. Caught 3 and missed a couple on the jump. One of the 18” bass gonna serve as someone else meal since the hook is too deep. The weed and algae is everywhere, small bluegill hangout shallow in morning. Saw a few bass chasing bluegill along shoreline.

Re: 6/6- Return to SD River

I seem to remember a saying from when I was a kid. Two out of Three ain’t bad! Way better than my Sailfish record….0 - 6 or my Tarpon Record… 1 - 12.

Ouch...that hurt!

I started the day with a couple small fluke fish, then went a couple hours with nada! I threw alot of different baits in the next couple hours, only coming up with a couple more clones. Every time I thought I was putting together a pattern..I was wrong! At noon, I made a move to one of my favorite ...

How many have found a lure and fished it???

How many have found baits along the bank in trees in the weeds or wherever when fishing and went on to fish them???
I mostly fish Hodges and it has more fishing line, hooks, baits, hard and soft, trash and used fishing gear than any lake I've been to!!!!
I'm always pulling braid and mono line out of my ...
