WIDE OPEN Winter Bonefish (video)

With Summer like weather for most of the month the Bay has been fishing more like March then January. Water temps are 3-4 degrees above where they would normally be and the fishing has been excellent on days with good tide movement. Had a fishing for Bonefish last week with close to 40 Bonefish over ...

Floyd and Flo spotted 2/9

Had a random day off today and decided to check a few things off the list. I patched a hole on the raft so I wanted to make sure it was holding. I got a new fish finder that I wanted to test out. I also got a DJI action camera from the Mrs. for Christmas. I wanted to get familiar with it ...

Pacific Beach Thursday August 28

While walking the dog I watched a guy south of Crystal pier catch a corbina in the surf, so I figured I’d go fish some. I fished the surf south of Crystal pier, mostly in front of the lifeguard station, from maybe 8:30-11:00 this morning. I went under the pier for sand crabs and got 20+ with roe ...

Carlsbad 8/28

After work session from 4pm-7pm.The little bit of rain just before helped clear the beach of people quite nicely. Caught 5 yellowfin croaker and 2 surf perch. Almost all my bites were past the breakers barely anything in close. Tried for halibut on a double dropshot with no luck but doubled up on ...

LJ Success! Sat 8/30

After holiday crowds left, I went back to north end of Marine St. I put a grunion on the hook, tossed it into the surf, and VOILA, a hit! The fish was a strong fighter, and, as expected it was a good-sized calico. Released.

Next cast, same thing, but quite a bit smaller than the first. I took a ...

Mission Beach 8/30-8/31

Nice weekend of fishing at Mission Beach.

Saturday was my first multiple "big fish" day! Started with my usual palm-sized perch within minutes of first cast, so I immediately avoided the skunk and was playing with the house's money at that point. From there, pulled in a corbina, a 19" spotfin ...

Fishing off the Rocks, 2025 Weird Year

Hey guys! I caught three ODDBALLs yesterday on the zman dropshot and that ONE looks like an albino sheephead! Or is it crossed with a Calico bass?! WTF

It's been a VERY slow year around here ... for me. Occasional standard issue short calicos, short seabass, and short cuda plus this misc oddball ...

Love to hear no seaweed. Nice outing!

Re: 10/17 Mission Beach

Yea, those perch do that a lot.. I pretty much stick with the C-rig.. I’ve experimented with the T-rig a few times but always came back to the C-rig…. What gear are you using?.. I’m not a SD guy but love coming down there and fishing when ever I can… That corbina that I’m holding in my avatar, is my ...

Re: 10/17 Mission Beach

I fish PB and MB almost weekly. You can drop down to mosquito hook either #6 or#8. I will say that this will essentially just net you some smaller perch. Alot of the fish in the socal surf are very small mouthed so smallish hooks are better but judging by the pictured perch I'd say the size you are ...

Re: 10/17 Mission Beach

What size and type of weight were you using. Also what swivel type? Other than that it's just keeping the slack out of your line and walking with your bait.

Re: 10/17 Mission Beach

Ah yes! That's your issue. 1/2 oz isn't terrible but maybe a bit heavy. The lack of swivel is the culprit for your wrapping issue.

As far as my notes on weight. I try to stay between 1/4-1/2. I pay attention to current and grass with weight selection. More grass means less weight. If your bait is ...
