Re: Agua Hedionda Lagoon Filled With Vegetation

You don't say what lure you are using. The most grass proof lure for me has been either a wobble head jig or a Slider jighead paired with a curly tail grub or paddle tail bait. Then put a swivel, snap or split ring about 12-18" above the lure as a grass catcher. Most of the grass is suspended so the ...

Re: Agua Hedionda Lagoon Filled With Vegetation

3-5 Days leading up to full moons create big tidal current swings which pull the grass off the bottom. With the water being warm coming off the summer temps there is going to be a lot of growth but you should notice less salad on your lures per the next full moon

Re: Agua Hedionda Lagoon 11-26-25

I throw a minimum of 5 inch baits, to keep from catching babies. Big fish rarely move on tiny baits. Not worth the effort. There are some really big Fish swimming in there. I’ve taken many Halibut over 10 pounds in that Lagoon. Lots of nice Bass, Corvina, not quite keeper White Sea Bass…and some ...

Re: Agua Hedionda Lagoon (Legal) Access

There's no legal access between the railroad and the freeway as far as I know.

You can shore fish the outer lagoon (West of the railroad tracks. .

If you have a kayak you can launch here:
agua hedionda lagoon ramp.jpg
The far eastern part of the lagoon is a reserve...no fishing.

Re: Torrey Pines skunk city

Tides...goodness, certainly one of the most important elements in surf fishing. Here are a few things I've observed over the years: When fishing on beaches with lots of kelp/eel grass I like to fish from an hour after low tide, up to high tide. This keeps most of the kelp/grass on the sand and not ...

How does fall effect surf fishing?

Thinking about heading that way again for a couple of days. I was wondering from the people with experience, how does the fall season effect the species of fish that you catch, sand crab availability, different baits etc. One of the most interesting things about the ocean to me is how different ...

Re: North County trips.

In a half hour at guard tower 36 in Carlsbad I caught a surf perch and my first corbina on a brown paddle tail grub. This was a receding low tide. I used a hybrid Carolina/Texas rig with the Carolina rig setup and the hook Texas style. It made it through the large quantity of vegetation ...

late report 10/10

Friday 7-11 am. A good amount of walking in the first hour and a half to try to find a break in probably 3 miles of shallow/flat sand bottom due to accumulated sand from previous months. Finally, I came across a small cut next to a shallow sandbar with a good amount of N current from the short ...

Re: "neap" tides

Neap tide with cold water.

Perch are going to perch.
Halibut and other fish. They don't "cruise" as much if at all. They stack up more. I like to find inlets and sources of water movement. For example I'll be heading to Solana beach if my Friday fishing works this week.

Tldr: cast til you find ...

Re: North County trips.

Thanks for the LC picks, Mike A. Cool.
I had my first multiple-fish day with the C-rig and grub in Del Mar today, 6 or 7 small perch in a couple of hours. I used the little worm hooks, and they were awesome. It's so fun to get those bites for a bit, and then the rod loads up. I worked for them ...

Re: North County trips.

Sorry about late response, traveling over the weekend. I just cast out about as far as I can. The cast is between the sets of waves. I can’t reach the 2nd set without extra weight or wading out in the water. The perch do hit pretty close to shore. It’s hard to tell but the LC are 2 different ...

Went out to get some more rain time in 6:30-9. Grass and kelp was non existent til the very end current definitely weaker. Caught 10-15 perch mainly in the small to medium range. Using predominately the honey badger paddle tail and a few on gulp.

Lessons Learn from 2025; Goals for 2026

Hi all!

2025 was the my first year of surf fishing after many, many years of fishing freshwater around San Diego. It all started on a camping trip at South Carlsbad State Beach before Memorial Day Weekend. I'd joked that I was just going to eat what I caught, and brought a couple small poles and ...

Re: Lessons Learn from 2025; Goals for 2026

Fish the inlets(River mouths) at dead low or high Tide for those elusive Halibut. Use at least a 5 inch white Swimbait to discourage the “Potato Chips”. It’s all about the Tide and the bite window is short most of the time, sometimes it never slows down.

Texas Rigging

I’m having a difficult time keeping my swim bait in line. I don’t know what the issue is but it swims at an angel or upside down.

Any suggestions ?

Re: Hard to Find Items (Wanted or Found)

Mr. Twister originated the curly tail grubs and still sells lots of them.

Re: Storing gulp baits

Pretty much any thing you use will leak after awhile if you are using it on the sand... Sand will destroy any seal you have and make the bait container leak... I use old prescription pill bottles, and after a couple of uses toss out in favor of a new one... They don't leak, a bottle will hold 1 pack ...
