WTB: beginner surf rod
Looking for a 2 piece surf rod to try out surf fishing with my son. Trying to catch whatever bites , not really targeting anything specific. Just want to get him on some fish and get him hooked. Already have a spinning reel for it. Thank you.

Re: WTB: beginner surf rod
Okuma Celilos are, in my opinion, the best value starter surf rods. I like the 9'6" ML and my buddy likes the 8'6" version. I'd recommend straight 8lb mono for beginners.
Catching is a lot tougher this time of year. The corbina and croaker season at my local beaches (Torrance to Manhattan) is roughly June through October.
Not sure what area you're in, but fishing near a jetty, or rocky structure with bait may be your best be to find some biters. I'm sure if you post the general location, people here will chime in with recommendations.
Good luck and have a great time with your son!
