More trips since last week still see lots of bonito locally. Maybe even more than before.
Todays trip hooked up immediately on dropping back a couple of crocodiles to troll to search for fish. Hit within seconds. Caught a couple more casting the croc then switched to the fly rods and a size 4 Crease fly, downsizing one size from last week. Immediately hooked up on a bonito.
20 plus for me on the crease fly plus some more on trolled and cast crocodile lures. Also a few macks on the crease fly and troll. Had a bunch hooked on the Crease fly come unpinned when the swell put some slack in the line but mind. Watching the fish attack the fly was a hoot. They would often come completely out of the water. Also, they would often miss and come back or another one would grab the fly.
2 anglers - more than 4 dozen boneheads today - fishing from about 0700 to 1100. Quite at 1100 with fish still biting as we had caught enough.
Caught far more bonito than mackerel. Most of the macks were small and had trouble eating the fly or lure.
With the marine layer and some wind chop the fish were coming after the topwater fly all day and even kept attacking after the sky cleared. The wind chop was definitely beneficial for keeping the fish near the surface.
Bonus: saw a Fin whale feeding about 100 yards from us at one point. Huge animal. Second largest whale species.
Some poor quality images. Had the sun behind my in both resulting in bad flare and contrast. Kept getting fish scales on the lens, ruining most of the images I captured.
