All reports are good... Even the skunks... Nobody likes a skunk, but it beats not fishing...

It was good medicine! I am going to enjoy these skunks! It's the only path to a keeper halibut, at least at the beaches I love.
They make the good days that much better. Good luck on your halibut quest, I'm pulling for ya!

The day certainly could've been worse and you are correct - the worst day of fishing is better than pretty much any alternative :)

I fished Carlsbad near lifeguard tower 36 around high tide. There was one other angler there. He was using what looked like a camo sandworm. I didn't see him catch anything. I was using a 1" red with blue flake curly tail grub and caught one BSP. I had another pull the hook off because I neglected to check the knot. There was not too much seaweed. The waves alternated between very small and too big because when they broke right near shore they tumbled the line and tangled it. Both of the fish were very close to shore.

Went this morning from 6 to 8. From 6 to about 7:15 used 2 different LC and then a 4” paddle tail. Nothing on either LC, only 1 hit on the paddle tail that felt kinda small. Finished up with gulps. Used camo and then red. Caught 1 small perch, missed a couple of more.

Gave it go this morning. First cast about an hour after high tide. Fished until about 11:15. Caught only perch, 6 total.
These 2 are the biggest, if “big” is the right word

Ha! Well, they're bigger than no perch, so there's that.

Thanks for the LC picks, Mike A. Cool.
I had my first multiple-fish day with the C-rig and grub in Del Mar today, 6 or 7 small perch in a couple of hours. I used the little worm hooks, and they were awesome. It's so fun to get those bites for a bit, and then the rod loads up. I worked for them and had to cast pretty far out. It was a gorgeous day, but the outer waves were pretty big. Almost salad-free! I threw a soft Jerkbait on a dropshot for a little bit, but I wasn't feeling it. Anyone catching halibut? I had a window of no current, but when it turned on, it was pretty fierce, so I called it earlier than I wanted to.

How far out did you cast? I was out this morning and caught only small perch a few feet from shore. I am wondering where the bigger ones are.

I didn't catch any bites in close, but it was midday. I did see a couple of 20" or so corbina, and surfers told me they have been seeing them.
I waded out and threw a 3/4-ounce c-r on 20-pound braid to a 12-lb leader about 200 feet give or take, just guestimating. well behind all but the furthest waves. My retrieval was really slow.

Sorry about late response, traveling over the weekend. I just cast out about as far as I can. The cast is between the sets of waves. I can’t reach the 2nd set without extra weight or wading out in the water. The perch do hit pretty close to shore. It’s hard to tell but the LC are 2 different patterns. Kind of funny how the perch are almost the same size as the LC.
