Pier Rod Specs?

Post by Midnightpass »

What is an ideal SO CA pier rod? I fished most all of the local piers over my life time.. But most of my pier fishing was done when I was a kid.. With any kind of gear I could get my hands on.. Mostly heavier conventional rods with old Penns… For the last 20yrs or so I spend a week on Crystal Pier.. I only fish the pier itself when one of the family members want to.. Otherwise it’s the beach.. I’ve used bigger gear and assorted miscellaneous fresh water stuff when actually fishing the pier since staying at the pier.. Like I said, I have stuff to chase sharks and rays, but was thinking of buying a rod that would haul a SFC, bass or halibut 20’ up the side of the pier, but be fun to use… I don’t need an expensive rod, because I’d rarely use it.. Maybe never… But I’d have it if needed… What is a perfect spec. for this use?…. Maybe even a make model #… Probably a spinner.. Even though I do have a nice little Abu round reel, that I could use… I don’t want to use my surf gear..
