Mission Beach 4/12

Post by jwacky »

Fished peak high tide as it receded this morning, line in the water at 6:15 and stayed until about 8:45. Not a terribly high tide but I forgot to check wave/swell conditions and was susprised to see almost no waves at all when showed up!

Fairly strong northerly current all morning and the winds picked up as the sun came out, though overall wasn’t too terribly difficult to manage. Relatively clean water, only a couple small tangles of seaweed on my line throughout the session.

It took an hour to even get a bite, but once I did I pulled in 7 perch. Would’ve been nice if any of them were bigger than my hand but I guess somedays we just take what we can get. Lots of nibbles all morning long once the bite finally picked up but nothing big. I suppose that’s a good sign for late season numbers.

I didn’t see any of the sand crab beds that seem to be surfacing elsewhere but there were a ton of those long beaked birds digging in the sand so they must be close!

Sounds like a pretty good morning… You guys get any rain down there?… It rained pretty good for an hour or two mid morning…

Did you move up and down the beach during the session, or relatively same spot before the bite started? Nice job getting 7.

I moved a little, but not more than maybe 50-75 yards either way. I had a hard stop time so I didn’t want to venture too far from where I’d parked. It was slow where I started so I walked to wear a big flock of those birds were picking at the sand and had pretty consistent bites for the rest of the morning.

Not when I was there. We got a small burst of rain early afternoon and it looks like a little more might be on the way, but nothing close to what was forecasted about a week ago. Of course, we have some gnarly microclimates down this way so north county beaches might’ve gotten soaked for all I know 🤷‍♂️
