In anticipation of the opening of the 2026 season, I started to upload some videos I took last year of trips to Barrett. This first one from late July was really special because I found huge shad boils in Becky's cove each morning. Many folks said they did not see any shad in 2025, so hopefully this shows they were still there but perhaps moving and behaving differently than previous years. Each morning these boils roamed around Becky's Cove and lasted over an hour! It was incredible. Unlike in 2024 when I caught 3-5 pounders off of boils, this time I only caught .5-2 pounders from these no matter how I fished them. On top of that off there were beautiful sunrises, but the bite turned off immediately once the sun got over the mountaintop and the water surface was in direct light. Alongside the usual mountain of bass caught, on this trip I also found some real nice crappie. I was stoked on this since I did not catch a single one in 2024.
In general when I bring my video camera fishing my goal is to capture the magic of being on the water--the landscape, the wildlife, the sounds and the rhythm of kayak fishing. Hoping to record more this year and combine them with more information-based fishing reports. I have a half dozen or so videos from last year, so I'll keep adding them to this thread as I get them uploaded. Tight lines!
