Fish report May 5, 2025

Post by dwaynesda »

Our Foundation, San Diego Anglers Foundation, brought Wounded Warriors to Barrett today and it was wide open. We fished from 7 am to 2:30. Every boat caught between 75 to 144 fish. Lots of these guys had never caught a bass before and they left the lake feeling like experts. It was a heavy overcast day so the fish stayed in the shallows all day. No wind. It was perfect.

The fish are biting everything, Senkos, lizards, rattle traps, squarebills, dropshot, Hookup baits, poppers, chatterbaits. Frogs included. I would say the bigger fish were eating the jigs the best. Both arms of the lake were biting good.

You guys are going to have a blast on Wednesday. Pick your favorite lure and go to your favorite spot and start to slay! It is perfect timing.

They all said it was the best fishing day of their lives.

The 2 gals that were there had to quit early because their arms and wrists were too sore from setting the hooks on the senkos. They got dropped off at the boat dock and waited in their cars for the armada to return at 3pm.(Bass Pro Shops donated 1000 senkos and 500 flukes with hooks to the solders. They all got used up)

It was quite a sight seeing all those boats that all waited until the last minute to catch one more bass before beating feet for home. And they were snapping good at 2:30 when we had to start back to the dock.

Very satisfying day for everyone involved.

This is awesome. I make baits for fun and would love to donate to events like this on Barrett. I know a few just passed but I’d love to know about them in the future so I can stock up and donate. Who can I talk to? Thanks in advance!!
