Hello all,
Got out at the usual time, although it's staying dark for a while now. Water was 79, the air was still and pretty warm. Buzzed over to the other side of the lake and starting casting the pompadour at the shoreline and got the first fish at 0440. My nighttime photography skills are certainly lacking. See the first picture. Pedaled over into Hauser and began my tour of the shoreline. Pompadour was the ticket, until it wasn't. I lost a bigger fish near the boat and I lost the lure too. I switched to a mostly black pompadour and nobody was interested. Thinking light color was the plan, I went to the popper and that was a well received lure. Continued along the Hauser shoreline with the popper. Saw some busters, but they seemed smaller and too fast for me to have any success with. Got to the big opening in Hauser and switched over to a combo of #5, #7 Rapalas, the OSP bent minnow ( which may be a new favorite ) and the X70 Megabass ( it doesn't float back up as fast as the Rapala ). Spent the next few hours with those lures and had a lot of fun with the 1 to 3 pounders. The #5 Rapala is on a 4# ultralight spinning rod, that's pretty soft so every fish is a struggle, it's really fun. Got done at about 1100. Wind was calm back in the back of hauser, but it was like a washing machine in the main lake. Water temp was up to 81 F. Air temp was warm, truck claimed 100F when I got in, 94 when I started driving.
