Clearing water 7-14

Post by JWall »

Quick report, Im beat! Dawned it with another Barrett lover Dan and after a slow start things got interesting. Dan got 3 quick frog blow ups in mid Pine but couldn’t stick any. Big explosions tho. I retired my frog for a senko pretty quick and got on the board. Tried black n blue and it worked all day. It wasn’t last week’s pea soup though and I actually had biters on the pumpkin purple as well. Saw occasional busters in Pine and nabbed a couple with the minnow, a sign of things to come. Did run over to the wall towards the back of Pine for a few but decided to head for Hauser. Found a corner in steeps there where the senkos accounted for our two biggest fish. Thought we’d cross the lake but instead of tying on a new fluoro leader after a second break off, I thought I’d go back to the minnow. We caught our last 10 just drifting and casting along the opposite shore in less than 30 minutes. By that time it was getting toasty and windy and we called it at noon. 22 in all, 17-5 me but Dan got big fish just shy of 4. It gave my new collapsible net a nice test.

Yep pretty good day. Water was definitely clearer thatln I thought it was going to be based on the reports. Little bit of wind in the morning but seem to settle down at least in Hauser arm. We got blown up on topwater pretty good throughout the day. Also a few on the drop shot. Overall a great day. Only thing that bums me out is I made a little rod holder that I left on the boat. Definitely going back before the season ends

Big bummer on the rod holder. Great idea! And yes that early wind was weird, seemingly from the west vs the usual east. That figured for a tough morning but it then went calm for 2-3 hours. That was really nice.
