5/6 Yak Report

Post by Johnnylh »

First time here since last year. Water level was stupid high! Been fishing Barrett for 12 years, and never has it been so high! Also, 36 degrees at 4:45AM! Had 8 or 10 fish before 6:00 a.m. on senkos. Hauser, then moved slowly toward the back picking here and there. Hadn't used a drop shot in about 5 years but the senko bite slowed down so I switched over just by chance they were nibbling it again and wouldn't you know it, smacked about 20 more all on drop shot then alternated back to the senko. Tried a jerk bait with zero luck. Started heading back to the dock at around 6:00 as the wind was howling. Got to the dock and was about to pull the boat out and there was a bunch of activity nearby, at that point I had 45 fish and ended up catching another 12 in 30 minutes around there while admiring the water level next to the dam. All in all was a stellar day, Barrett did not let me down as per usual. My biggest fish was four and a half on a fat Ika, otherwise mostly standard Barrett 1 and 1/2 with a mix of occasional twos, which I'll take all day! Left at 7:15 tired and happy!

Was there any beach areas back in Hauser ? I’m planning on using the boat as a taxi for float tubing.

I mean there were a few spots that looked accessible, but not like before all the water came. You should be ok back there.
