Back in the day, black and blue lizards use to be a go to for me down there. It’s funny how over time you shift from fishing certain baits. I think I’m going to have to bust them out. I think the reason I stopped was the brush hawg came out. The lizard was the original creature bait for me.
I ...

Re: Barrett Rangers
Why worry? Just crimp em down. Will save a fish on a gut hook and you on a skin poke. And as DarkShadow said, they are sneaky lil devils.

Re: Barrett Rangers
Haha, how about not robbing a bank?
Just crimp your barbs, have a license, and don't have fish in your bucket.
Pretty simple. Then u don't have to worry about what the rangers look like, eh? Ridiculous.
They all have been more than friendly.

Re: Barrett Lake record
Fisheromen told me about the digital scale from China on eBay, was like $1.99, works great. Not to own one? PRICELESS. I order 3 at a time, they get lost, break, etc., nice to have backup, just in case.

Re: Barrett Lake record
PPPS I would have tied a string on the fish (made a 'stringer') and kept it in the lake til someone came along w/ a scale, fish like that don't come along but once in a lifetime for most bass fishermen. In fact, very few ever get on over 6 or 7 (southern states heavier overall of course).

Re: A Call to Arms Barrett Junkies
Maybe I am looking at this incorrectly. If I look at the total number of days they are open and make some assumptions that are probably within 20%, I'd guess this increase would result in something around 50-70K total, which it probably won't. If I look at fiscal year 2025 report the budget is 2 ...

Re: Why post fake reports?
This is the 1st year in a while that I have gotten tickets for June (was out of town for the May signup). Hope to do well. Most years I only fish July and August and am stuck with a measly 20-40 bass but at least the lake isn't crowded once the air temperature hits 100F. I am a dawn to dusk angler ...

Re: Why post fake reports?
Ive fished Barrett 4 times. Twice back in the 90's in the lottery days and twice last year. Only 1 time did we ever catch what seemed like a fish every cast. All other times were 10-20 fish ea and that is plenty for me! I honestly dont keep an accurate count. It ruins the fun of it for me. Who the ...

Re: Why post fake reports?
It’s definitely possible to do 100 but the main point of the post is why post a fictitious report that didn’t even happen. It’s bizarre. As others have mentioned, credibility of that guy is gone. Just like Long, from guys I know that personally know him, he can catch big fish legitimately but what ...

Re: Do you count your fish?
If you can't take a picture with it doesn't count. Alot of people count the long range releases especially on a tube.

Re: Do you count your fish?
For the most part NO. I usually like to try different lures at barrett cause they will get hit so I do really bother counting unless I'm fishing a funny or cool lure and its catching like crazy but 10 15 fish is easy to keep track of IMO.

Re: July Tickets
A lot these lakes around here weren’t open to the public for a very very long time. Wouldn’t be surprised if that happens again. It’s all about the alphabet club, making our streets sexy and other related crap. I never knew potholes were sexy.
Was thinking the same thing…seems like we are ...

Re: Skinny bass
Any skinny bass I caught early and mid season were tight to the bank. During the same trips, all the healthy and heavier bass were in deeper water. I focused a majority of my fishing in deeper water and secondary points-none of those areas produced any sick or skinny fish.
My experience was ...

Hardly - WAY smaller group than a normal fishing day at Barrett - and we are all by and large fishing top water...falafeluver wrote: Mon May 08, 2023 11:24 pm I’d hate to be fishing on the Saturday of May 13th, after the fly folks hammer them on the Friday, talk about getting slammed.

Re: OK - Who wants to fly fish Barrett next Friday??
I might have been that guy in Hauser. I heard someone else was doing great on Flukes, so I might not have been that guy, also. I started out over by Wilson creek and had some success, but no pattern at all. I pedaled over to the inlet of Hauser, and caught a couple on dropshotted roboworms, but ...

Barrett report May 24th
Hello all,
Here's what happened on Barrett for me today. Got out in the dark, like you are supposed to. First fish at 0540. At that time it's not dark anymore. :)
Took a while to get fish, but eventually there were fish. Here's the stats: Topwater 0, Jerkbait (Silver) 13, Jig 4, Dropshot Roboworm ...
