Grandson called me Friday night and asked If I'd like to do a little surf fishing with him and his buddy... His buddy is a fisherman but hadn't surf fished since he was younger... My Grandson supplied all of the gear for him to use... We decided on fishing the inside and outside of Alamitos ...

The rain stopped for a couple hours
...and I gave it shot. Water was murky, especially close to city water runoffs. I walked about half a mile away. The water still had a brown-ish hue but at least no weird smells. Still not great condition but it could start raining any minute so what's the heck, just cast.

Pacific Beach Perch Frenzy
After a cancelled session Wednesday at Coronado due to impossible kelp/grass conditions followed by a skunk at Mission, decided to give it another go yesterday 20240829_063409 copy.jpg morning at PB. Got there at first light and couldn't miss for an hour & half. The perch were hitting as soon as the ...

Re: Grunion run tonight 3/29/25
**UPDATE**
The grunion were there! Not huge #'s, but plenty to have some fun and see an amazing display of nature! Pretty big wave power, the big washups seemed to have the most fish coming in. Put about a dozen in a bucket just to observe, used a few for live bait later, but they kept getting ...

Del Mar afternoon 07/26
Fished Del Mar for a few hours late afternoon. Crowds weren’t too bad. Water was dirty but not too much salad to snag on. Started off with landing two small YFC right away. Nothing for the next hour or so until this Corvina took a liking to the Gulp Sandworms of all things. Fought much harder and ...

Quality Over Quantity - Mid Summer Surf Report
Sight-fishing between Blacks and Del Mar has been "excellent" this season, except for the whole catching part. This year is the first time I've seen spotfin tailing in the surf, but almost like a first-cast-curse, I've only been able to catch the first one I spotted (pun intended) in late May, using ...

Re: Jetty Legality
Not all jetties are public, some can and are private structures. Just like you can't walk past a boat dock gate at low tide and climb up it to fish. Even public jetties can have restricted access for various reasons (like south jetty in MB). If there's a gate or signs for no fishing, just find ...

Re: Sand Spike and Long Casts.
Sounds like fun . Learning something new / different . I have done a bit of dabbling in the long distance casting myself . There are some websites that go pretty deeply into it . I have been using mono main and shock lines connected by a Crazy Alberto knot . .040 mm diameter Suffix Siege or ...

Re: Jetty, shore and pier rockfish closure?
Grass Rockfish are pretty common around the local San Diego reefs. Couldn't keep them off my jigs at Zuniga Jetty.Gotfish? wrote: Tue Oct 28, 2025 7:20 pm Yes but it is rare to catch those species in shallow water in SoCal.

South San Diego Bay for the last couple of months
Been hitting San Diego one to two days a week for the last couple of months. Mostly between Fiddler's Cove area and south end of the Coronado Cays and from east to west.

Ending 2023 on SD Bay.
Finished the 2023 calendar year out on SD Bay this morning. Light breeze and occasional mist. Fished from 0700 to 1020. Quit early due to recent back injury. Both of us had fish on with our first casts. Pretty steady bite until it slowed down where we were about 0940. Red/Yellow clouser minnows and ...

Carpin’ at Lake Henshaw
Hit up lake Henshaw this morning for some fly fishing for carp which is one of my favorite yearly trips. The last few years there hasn’t been very many cloopers on the surface so I have been mostly nymphing using the drag and drop or dabbing techniques. Today the carp were not making them self ...
