Re: Water clarity and eelgrass
I have noticed a lot more turbidity, less eelgrass, and a huge drop in spotted bay bass action at Coronado Cays. The invasive Caulerpa seaweed is also a factor in decimating eelgrass

Re: Water clarity and eelgrass
I’ve noticed similar issues with water clarity in the back bay, particularly off the Cays and up along the Silverstrand near Fiddlers. Bass bite has been in a little bit of a funk with all the hot weather

Re: Water clarity and eelgrass
The Tides have been fairly mellow the last few days, that will put a dent in the Bass numbers. Clarity can be Algae growth, Silt getting stirred up from big Tides, or a ton Mullet stirring up the mud in the shallows. The biggest weapon is to change up tactics and find new areas that are holding the ...

Species Day- Back Bay
Got out for a slow but consistent day in the back bay. Thought with the really low tide the fish would be pushed towards the deeper water. Not sure if they were but there was a decent bite on small to average sides spotties, 1 bone fish, 1 halibut and 1 Midshipman. Not sure why but that fish looks ...

Fee free fish
Cap and the fresh water’s been fun, but I decided to close to home today. I honestly had a bit of a rough session to start. Forgot my trolling motor battery at home, so had to put in the workout on my tube today. Then got on the water and realized I forgot my sunglasses in the car. To top it off, I ...

Point Loma trip last weekend. Bahhhhh
We mostly fished the kelp at high tide with plastics, loaded up on grumpys in the bay afterward too. Total we got some small calicos, 1 legal sandbass, couple grass rockfish, and the kicker sheep.

Costa Rica August 2025
So the last couple weeks have been rather eventful for me. Flew up to San Francisco for the Grateful Dead's 60th anniversary celebration August 1-3 anr the day after I got back I flew down to Costa Rica with my grandpa and our buddy Pete. Stayed down there for 6 days and fished 3. Was definitely a ...

Big ones!
Went out on the Old Glory and it was super fun...we went all the way to Tanner on an overnight boat (big thanks to the Captain). Got there about an hour after first light and there were 30+ boats there already on anchor. we did the same and in short order I hooked (and subsequently landed) a BFT ...

Tribute 10-1 2 day Slaughtering
Did a charter on the Tribute on Oct 1st. Flat calm ocean...Found a pod of yellow fin and had pretty much wide open bite for about 4 hours straight. Fish from 25 to about 50 pounds. No love on the blue fin night bite but we grinded it out all night...Then we found the yellow fin a little later the ...

New Seaforth Twilight 6/23
Excited by the recent fishing reports, I booked a spot on the Twilight trip on New Seaforth. Captain mentioned occasional yellowtail catch on fly lined sardines as stick baits. On the way to the fishing grounds, captain already spotted yellowtail action, fish boiling on the surface. I was super ...

Tribute Brady West Shark Attack
Got out on our BW charter on the Tribute on the 18th for a 2 day....Water was rough to say the least. Battled through it fished hard for little prize. But did get to see the tax man collect on our hard fought gains. See Tribute Sportfishing Instagram for the whole video.

New Lo An 2025
We did it!! All previous fish counts were filled with small blue fin to 15 pounds! We thought we'd be fishing the same......but the big ones showed up in force. Made it to the grounds on our 1st day at about 9 pm and on our first drop we landed 3 over 80 pounds. Then we picked em up throughout the ...

Rocky Shorelines - Calico Bass May 22
Walked down to a favorite beach spot to fish a weighted weedless swimbait (shown) along the sand/rock shoreline here, with much smaller surf today.
The recent south swells have migrated tons of sand north on my beach, and have unburied the local acres of eel grass - which is all dead and drifting ...

Re: Water got cold
This is even better than Solunar Tables for explaining why the bite was slow. Water was too cold or too warm. Now if I could just find a way to predict when the bite was going to be good instead of an excuse for a slow bite.
Got 17 spotted bay bass at Tidelands this morning. Was doing well until ...

Re: Are cabeezon venomous?
He's confused, it's a true sculpin, not a poisonous spiked scorpionfish.
