Re: Fly Fishing Coronado Surf Again
Hit the surf with the fly rod again in Coronado last weekend , got 5 perch including this tank! Used red surf flies like the crabby patty pattern which was super fun. The water seemed to have some smell too it from the natural Tijuana spring water but I had waders so I was good i hope.
Nice ...

Henshaw has been great.
The past two weekends I've been going out with Tubefly . I've been exclusively sight fishing for Carp, but Bill doesn't have the patience and vicinity-fishes with an indicator. I got four carp last week and six yesterday, and lost a whole bunch more. But more importantly, I had the most shots on ...

Re: Wild SD Trout- Report
Looks like a lot of work to get there.
Didn't see any poison oak but it's winter time too. I have been along a few streams (while hiking or biking) that are supposed to have wild trout and they have lots of poison oak.
I rolled in poison oak as a kid and ever sense haven't been too bothered ...

Paddleboard Tarpon Fishing: Report
Might as well get a paddleboard report in here even if its not from San Diego!
Ive spent the last few weeks targeting backwater tarpon and its been a blast and a pain in the butt. I started fishing small baits and flukes and the bites were slow to come, i switched to the No Live Bait Needed mini ...

Re: Paddleboard Tarpon Fishing: Report
A circle hook with a split ring attaching it to the eye of the jighead? Interesting, that tarpon fishing is still a bucket list for me (as for most other anglers) but it seems so frustrating to expect to lose so many fish that even hooking one "counts" more than hooking and losing just about any ...

One last attemp
Rockfish season closes soon, at least for depths less than 300 ft.
Went out for a try and got a few rockfish. Only one to keep.
A few sand dabs, and a not quite legal sand bass.
Not a great shot of the rockfish, but it was something to bring home.
Surf was low which I prefer - still not used to ...

New Glide Angler iSup
Hi everyone
Used to be active on the old site. Mainly fished from kayaks and from shore. Been a few years since I've had a kayak, but recently got a Glide Angler iSup to hit the bays.
It's been a lot of fun and have been getting on some quality fish, like this keeper Halibut from Liberty Station ...

Big bay, Coronado and Cays
Fished Coronado early Friday morning....11 SBB and a micro halibut.
Anchored up in a shallowish spot and tried my hand at working plastics on the bottom....with a foot-and-a-half chop when the wind picked up.
Didn't work. What's weird is that I get seasick like a woodchipper when I get on a boat ...

Zippered waders
Waders with zippers are typically $400 and up. Re: Zippered waders
I love my zippered waders! Absolute game changers. I found Paramount Outdoors over a year ago and the Deep Eddy Zippered Waders that I got from them are the best I have ever owned. After purchasing them I reached out to them telling them how much I loved them and let them know I make YouTube Videos ...

South Bay Cruise N Snooze....
Wasted a good tide by fishing where the fish weren't.....and kicking across just about the hole darn bay to fish one hole....that wasn't where I thought it was.
And that was after getting lost in the fog. Moreso than usual.
But it was a nice day, and once again the homemade "whatever you do, don ...

Re: Grease & Oil
Cals or Shimano drag grease . Blue marine grade grease on gears and for coating parts . Bearings get 0-20 oil which the blue bottle 3 in one is . . Clean and lube often is the key , particularly after a salt water dunk . Note , Cals is good stuff and I know people that use it for all grease needs ...

Rods marked down at Santee Walmart
Yeah, whatever.
There are a bunch of spinning and casting rods marked down, and there were a few Shimano Sienna reels for a couple dollars off. But the Lew's rods caught my eye. Especially the 6' 10" Medium action casting rod for ...$18.50.
I do NOT need another casting rod, but these things are ...

Re: Old Cotton Cordells
Any chance he got them at Turners Sporting Goods? I worked there for a couple of years way back in the early 80s and remember cherry picking a bunch of deep running plugs from a huge box of lures during a .39 cent sale. The packaging sure looks familiar. I still have some too, I bought 100 of them ...

Re: Storing gulp baits
You can purchase a Gulp pint tub (has big baits) for storage and a Gulp jar (has tiny baits) for fishing use, they last forever and won't leak. I have some Gulp screw top tubs that are like 10-20 years old.
Any bag that gets old, or leaks, the baits go straight into the tub for a soak. I ...

Re: Reel Maintenance
So here are some tips to get it back together correctly:
1. Use an egg carton (18 egg size) and put items in it sequentially as you take them out.
2. Take pictures with your phone of anything complex. Or even of the starting condition if not sure.
3. Pay close attention to items that can go back ...

Re: Reel Maintenance
Gotfish generated a very good list. I would add,
1. Have the schematic handy and study it before opening the reel.
2. Gotfish already mentioned this, but YouTube has a surprising large number of videos. Watch and study them first.
3. As I disassemble the handle, I thread each of the part in ...

Re: Favorite Ned Rig now
This performed well again today. 39 spotties, 1 corvina, 9 bonefish, all on flats in South Bay. Outperformed other lures.
I get errors when I try to attach some photos.
