Re: Favorite fish finder and size on kayak
I have a Garmin Striker Vivid 4cv. I like its size and features, but wished it had the ability to upload/download waypoints and maps. You can create your own maps, but it sure would be nice to have a map of place ahead of time instead of making one real time. It has a “share user data” feature but ...

First Bean(?)
SD Bay was good Sunday (7/16) morning. Caught (what I think) was my first bean on the fly rod (yes, it's small). I thought corvina's mouths were more bottom oriented, but made this one's a juvenile? It had little barbels on its chin like a catfish. Can anyone confirm?

Re: Float tube essentials....
When fishing very close to structure (docks, bridge pilings, rocks, brush, etc), I like to use a hand paddle to push off or make small adjustments to position. Mine has a cut out in the paddle to hook things which is useful when retrieving something dropped in the water.

Dinks chase the blues away
It’s been a rough weekend, simultaneously had to deal with a broken water heater and a broken microwave. The family was not happy.
Finally got things sorted by midday Monday, so decided to hit a favorite spot with the float tube, a 5wt glass rod, and a conehead bunny leech I tied. Caught a couple ...

Re: Spotty Fishing San Diego Bay- A-rig and Ultralight
Cool video, cool rod, nice fish! I haven’t had much luck with spotties during slack tides.

Re: Secret lake besides Lake Miramar, Evans Pond
I think (don't know for sure) it doesn't have a decent oxygen supply and is essentially unmaintained, so the water doesn't get replenished often, resulting in regular die-offs. The last time I saw it was choked with vegetation and algae. I'm not sure I would eat anything out of it.

Re: Harrassed by VinnyBass' alter ego at Murray?
LOL, that is crazy! Maybe VinnyBass has trained a cadre of attack herons to chase away fly anglers?

Cudas on the chew
Cudas were swarming off Harbor Island Sunday morning. Caught about a dozen on crankbait. My buddy was using a swim bait and they were hitting that also, but he couldn’t get a hook up until he went to a smaller bait. Of course, the one time I didn’t bring my fly rod…..

No spotties, but…
Fished H.I. this morning, mostly in the deeper channels. Spotties were a no-show, but between my friend and I we caught 3 sculpin, 1 hali, 1 sand bass (small), 5 mackerel. This was our first outing where not a single spottie was in the mix.

Re: Big Bay 12-17
Way to adapt and find a winner, something I need to work on. I tend to fish a certain technique, and instead of switching it up when it doesn't work, I just fish it harder (with generally poor results).

Re: What kayak do you fish out of?
I have an old Malibu X-Factor 14.5' I use in the bays. It's a very stable kayak, can hold a TON of gear (it has a max weight load of 625 lbs!), and can move out surprisingly well for its size. The downside is it's a beast to load/unload/transport. I'd love to eventually get a pedal kayak but they ...

Re: Tip of the day
Carry a couple of jugs of fresh water (I use 1gal Arizona Tea containers). After fishing in the saltwater, I rinse off my gear with the fresh water before the ride home and give a more thorough rinse at home. I keep a large plastic cup in the truck and fill it will fresh water and throw all my flies ...

Re: Fly fishing from Tidelands
It's always fun catching fish on flies you've tied yourself. I'm continually amazed that fish sometimes fall for my god-awful creations. I'm currently experimenting with spoon flies (purists, avert your eyes) thinking their oddball movement might attract some attention. I'm also focusing on small ...

Re: DIY Rod Tube holder advice needed
DIY Rod Holder 1.jpg Thanks for all the ideas. Here's the project thus far. It's ABS (I like the look of black) and will hold six rods/pieces of gear on left side of tube. I plan to replace the nut on the bottom side of the eye bolts with eye nuts, so I can bungee from the eye nuts to D-rings ...
