4/8-You guessed it....Murray

Just for today..... I am going to save you guys from reading me babbling on and on.
So here are a few pics of some fish I caught in (McFish will be shocked again) water depths
around 25-35 feet of water.
Hopefully the warmer weather will spur up more action in closer. Tight lines :-)

I love reading and looking at posts from all the forum members here!
I rarely post but I thought this was worthy and also to celebrate my Dad who recently passed!
He loved to see pictures of the fish I caught from salt or fresh waters!

9/16-Yeah...that lake

Trying not to bore everyone with a fish report that turns into a novel, I decided to
keep it a little bit shorter and simple. Enjoy! :-)

Fished Murray(yeah, that lake) under cooler and windy conditions
Bass were on the chew... despite 6 or so bass coming unbuttoned, was still able to land 16 bass ...

TOPWATER Finally!

Pictured is the first of six total topwater bass today at Murray. None of them were big, but I am not complaining. Do you know why? Because TOPWATER, that's why!!

Bass were busting everywhere early in the morning. After that slowed down it got tough to get them on anything.

3/26 SD River

Woke up this morning and there was a light rain. I wanted to go fishing, but just sat there drinking coffee. But even though it was a late morning start, I grabbed some rain gear and headed down to the SD River. I figured I could rough it for a few hours as it was not pouring or anything.
The water ...

San Gabriel Mts/ South Fork trout fishing( video)

San Gabriel Mountains South Fork Trout action( video). With all the recent rains this year, this area should be prime for a fall trip and its only around 2 hours away Off I-210. Back when I did this trip, I managed 5 or 6 in a few hour session all on Berkely Power worms. It would also make for a ...

Eastern Sierra whitewater report

Many campground closed due to swampy conditions.
My jam is flicking spinners in little creeks. High, fast water limits presentation in most spots. Gonna hit parts of the San Joaquin tomorrow. Gonna have to be past the summit by 7 am to avoid the shuttle. The road to the postpile is open but the ...

20230810_155424.jpg Reds Meadows and Pumice Flat open. Other campgrounds too swampy. The Postpile is open for day use. Got 8 browns in the postpile area on Thursday. Small and micro.
All caught on the new spinners...dubbed the Patient Zero. The trout catching epidemic starts now...

Re: Eastern Sierra whitewater report

So on the way home, spotted a medium-sized herd of elk in the wildlife viewing area. This is where the pastures are watered all summer to grow grass, and the elk come down to hang out an fatten up for the winter.

This group of about two dozen included one bull, who only had one antler. They were ...

Re: Native Rainbow Trout

That's great stuff. Remember to wet your hand before handling the fish so you can protect their slime coat. I only know of one spot for sure that's got em but I suspect there are a handful of creeks around where if you get up into the right areas you can find wild trout. We've just gotta protect ...

Re: Native Rainbow Trout

I just watched the tight loops video on san pedro martir. Pretty cool stuff. I doubt I'll ever get up there and even if I did, I'd may catch one or two and then leave, but it's cool to know it's there. I wonder if there's still grizzlies up there too. I hear occasionally people tell stories of ...

Re: Native Rainbow Trout

Actually most "wild trout" in SoCal streams/creeks/rivers are genetically feral remnants of fish stocked years/decades ago. There are only a couple waters with genetically identifiable southern DPS "steelhead" genetics and they are closed to fishing without any public access.

I saw that the new ...

Drainage ditch cats...

Why yes, I am sorting my old photo files.

One local creek has plenty of bullheads, but never encountered a bigger cat after some 15 years of scratching around.

Santee Lakes Bluegill Blossoming

Lately I have been visiting Santee Lakes and catching bass, but also watching the newly hatched bluegill grow from one inch to more than three inches. They always seem to be feeding on heavy concentrations of freshwater plankton and also on hatching bugs in the heat of the day. They are usually ...

Fat Bluegill, San Vicente ... again? May 21

It's officially a pattern at this point! :D

Really fun panfishing again today and upped gear to 6 lb. braid with 6 lb. leader, found the fish in the same areas. Targeting around 15 to 18 feet deep on nightcrawlers at the outer edge of the brushlines, similar to Friday's catch but added a fat 2.2 ...

Hodges Crappies

So,

As everyone knows Hodges opened last week. I've been starving for a crappie bite all year. I had to go. Plus the kids have been asking to get out as well. Thought it was the perfect opportunity for both.

Got there in line before it opened to ensure we got a rental.

The ramp is now the parking ...

Re: Hodges Crappies

Sure was great to see you and the kids getting in on the fun crappie action. Even saw you guys with a couple double-hookups! That day I released more than a dozen, caught a whole bunch more and kept nine better ones for dinner.

Re: Hodges Crappies

Went back for 2nds.

This time I got Dave out of his nice cushy crappie machine and into a good old fashion flat bottom rental. Fished moved on me but it only took a hour or so to re-locate them. Live scope not needed. Then we proceeded with the beat down.
