Re: Barrett 6/7

Nice report. Was there Sat. as well and the wind was brutal. Tough on a kayak.

Did decent and a good amount from shore as well. Love this lake.

6-11-25 first trip of the season, Barrett did not disappoint

First time this season, we’ve been able to get out. The lake was beautiful, nice and full and it is in great condition. Our morning popper bite never materialized and we went straight to Fishing plastics and got on a senko bite that just hammered them. We had 40 fish by 10 all of them nice grade. We ...

Re: Barrett Lake June 11th report

The whopper plopper is the best because you can pause it, they will track it, especially the darker profile.

Let’s not forget all the crawler baits he(Chuck) helped sell the last couple of seasons. 😂

Re: Father’s Day 2025 and the Bass Were Gifting!

Very very nice!
Sounds like you had a super fishing day on Father’s Day. It’s so much fun when the bass are on the chew and it must have been a blast. Thank you so much for sharing and your facial expressions in the pics tell the whole story.
Tight lines always :-)

Barrett Lake June 15th report

Got out at 0430 to a pleasant warm morning, with already a hint of daylight coming. Water was already 73F at the surface and wind was light and variable. Decided to go long and get to Hauser right away. Also decided to focus on topwater, because, well, topwater. Bite was intermittent and a lot of ...

JUNE 14TH REPORT

I have not fished Barrett in 10 years and my son Cayden and I were very excited to get back on the water after such a long absence. It was a tough night of sleep after preparing all of our rods/reels and tackle for our trip. We have a tackle box dedicated to Barrett where we grind down all the hooks ...

Re: Barrett Lake June 15th report

John, I agree on the Jitterbug. I think it looks great and the motion isn't that much different than the other crawlers. I think it may be the shiny lip on the front. I am going to paint the lip flat black and try it again. I'll let you know.

Barrett Bonanza June 21 Report

Max and I teamed up yesterday for another fun day at the Big B. After about ten hours of fishing we hit our goal of 80 fish not including about fifteen dinks. I did most of my damage on the brush hog while the versatile Max got them on a variety of baits. He also introduced me to the neko rig that ...

Re: Barrett Bonanza June 21 Report

Looks like a good day. I have been asking about the shad, 4 trips no shad.

There are some there and if you find any, bass will be feeding. Especially on the surface. But there does seem to be less and maybe skinnier fish. Unless they are just spawned out and have yet to gain back weight. Some ...

Re: Barrett Bonanza June 21 Report

Capture a bunch of those 1 pounders and put them in Gregory like last time!

And I believe shad is a boom or bust cycle that occurs.

I wonder if Kwin knows if DFG/W has stocked shad successfully before.

Re: Barrett Bonanza June 21 Report

Predator-prey cycles are well known. It would take a huge amount of shad to keep the bass in the lake well fed, that would not be practical.

When the bass are over populated, the shad population will crash followed by a crash in the bass population. Then the shad population will increase followed ...

Re: Barrett Bonanza June 21 Report

So if you wanted to disrupt the predator-prey cycle to improve bass fishing, here is what could be done:

1. Introduce new prey species. In particular, go for the most invasive prey possible like round gobies, rusty crayfish, red shiners, killer shrimp and silverside minnows. Good luck getting that ...

Re: Barrett Bonanza June 21 Report

Had a fun morning out there Saturday as well. Was in the water by 5, had a keeper limit by 5:20, got over 10 fish in the first hour. Slowed down after that comparatively. I was off the water by 9:30AM as the wind was howling and I was getting blown around out there. Morning session finished with 26 ...
