Hit San V avoiding the tournaments at El Cap all weekend. 21 caught and released before 10am. Was sunny and warm as we left. Small plastics split shot were the ticket for us.
Postponed a cool windy Friday for a warm sunny Tuesday at El Cap…WRONG! This winter that won’t let go had the lake chilly and white capping by 10am today. It probably slowed whats been a decent bite but seeing the shad along the shoreline pushed us to throw spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, and flukes over t...
IMG_9567.jpeg Ditto on the nicer fish of two weeks ago replaced by dinks on Sunday. Not all bad as the girl is learning to finesse fish small plastics and was actually out catching me. That is until I first stuffed her and the back of the boat farther in the brush. When that didn’t work, I drifted ...
Decent size Friday crowd on yet another cooler, breezier Late May day. WTH is the warmer weather? Anyway for the 3rd straight Cap trip, I caught a fish on my first cast. I can’t say that’s ever happened before. And then after thinking it will be WFO, it turns out to be anything but and just a slow p...
Great video and catching! Hodges was my late 80’s, 90’s go-to lake and even though its a fraction of its former self, you brought back memories of the hot morning bites with cranks and blades parallel to the banks, and seemingly a better grade of fish. Oh and just when I too was wondering where the ...
Not San Diego…but taking care of my 93 year old mom for 11 days so my sister gets a break. Mom’s Del Webb community outside Houston has small lakes that were stocked in the early days and

I can usually sneak down to wet a line at sunset. Fishing in suburbia ain’t all bad!!
Does anyone know if the water level at Otay is going down at all? El Cap has gone down… of course recently Murray’s water level has gone down. I’m just curious as the warmer months come if the water level goes down, maybe they’ll be better fishing and less places for the bass to spread out and hide...
Certainly not the Big B of old but still fun. Like a whole new lake with the level near full. All my spots of the previous years gone and replaced by new great looking zones. Took a while to find any numbers but they are there. Small plastics and senkos were working early. Angry slab bluegill everyw...
Headed out to Hauser first light and found them biting flukes good. First cast magic with a surface explosion and all. The girl got 4 pretty quick and I eventually caught up. Anywhere from the shore out to 8-10ft and around submerged trees. Things slowed a bit when the sun came out and I decided to ...
Geez… the mystery at Sutherland continues and sadly has kept away many anglers including myself. At least you’re picking up some bass and that one looks nice. I am almost tempted to drive up there because you know how much fun it is when I can be there as your personal depth finder… and share count...
Nice one! We may have fished near you in Hauser. Saw deer too. Always cool. On your crawler, many years ago I found a jitterbug that gurgles and wobbles good and I thought it would get them to go for sure. No luck after 10 minutes today so I went back to flukes. Will have to dedicate some time to my...
The rangers used to chase you off way before the dusk bite gets hot but has anybody been launching in the afternoons and doing good? Seems like most of us here are morning creatures.
Exactly VinnyBass. Years ago when I lived nearby, Hodges was a go to. There wasn’t a great amount of primetime before being chased off, but you could boat a few anyway. Looking forward to any input.
Agree VB and have to admit I’m not in a hurry to post about slow days. So here…hit the Cap on Sunday and it was rough on us. Landed 2 dinks fishing shallow and that was it for both of us. We were planning to scoot early anyway before the oven turned on but the lack of catch made it easy. My observat...
