April Angling at the Big B 4/19 report

Had a lot of fun with my buddy Max yesterday at Barrett. We got 108 between us with Max getting the majority of them. One of the highlights of the day was him coaching me on jig fishing which produced the bigger models.

Opener

I was at the gate at 3:30 and was in line outside the gate. I was at the water ready to launch and decided to make some casts. 10 fish before I left on the tube. I was there from open to close caught a lot, lost a lot (need to find what hook is best for elaztech baits). There were the blue gill and ...

Top water Opener

Jose let us in @4:30, line went all the way to the road outside. Mad rush to the water but everyone was friendly. Started with a couple on jig and swim bait, then it was top water ALL day. The popper when it was nice and calm, buzz bait through the grass area, crawler and frog got them too. No ...

No Mas Wednesday's

This battle was lost but the war is still on. June will be the last month to fish Wednesdays at the Big B. Barrett will be open only on Saturday and Sunday for FY 2026. I believe that will be the norm in the other seasonal lakes. At least we got the FULL attention of Council on the many issues ...

Re: No Mas Wednesday's

Thanks for doing what you did.

It's really sad that an area that could be a destination for world class freshwater fishing is so poorly managed. I guess it's good that those people can't close our ocean, they'd figure out how to mismanage that too.

And yes, Barrett fishing has been great.

8-3 Morning Sesh Making Adjustments

On it at 0-dark:30 and soon discovered just how much the water has dropped since mid July. Lots of structure and cover is up and dry with new submerged targets coming into play now being shallower. We had already decided to try a few new items and found yet another Pourboy recommendation is a winner ...

8/27 On my tube again.

Was in the water in the dark and the they were on the chew. Either a tick or flat out try to pull the rod out of your hands. Not much topwater for me except I was throwing a weightless worm and skimming the grass and sticks. Some really fun blow ups. Note you still need to let the rod load up before ...

Otay baits 4/20

6 total bass today at Otay, and five of them were courtesy of this:

It's a Diawa 3" TD Minnow, and it has definitely become my #1 jerkbait for BFS fishing. It has great action and casts a country mile. Most fish hit a twitch twitch pause retrieve, while two hit it on ...

Murray BFS 5/8 bait

Nearly all 14 fish today came courtesy of this Sixth Sense bluegill colored crankbait. They call it the pressure series and it is the deep diving model. It's been working well in all the lakes I fish and I can easily throw it on my light rods. They really hammer it.

I like to troll it in front of ...
