https://youtu.be/lNyS76NrmF8
Hey all!
I got a brief window to head out to Misson Bay for a 3 hour session. The last time I was out there I lost a massive halibut in the channel and was looking for some redemption. I also had an idea that I wanted to ...

Sunrise hali
Started throwing at grey light. Literally in the middle of nowhere. Threw a bass jig a couple times to check depth, 12-15'. Nice depth for the chatterbait, so I changed rods. 1st cast on the chatter. Boom! Gaffed her, stepped on her, stabbed her in the brain, threw in the ice box to die. 20 minutes ...

Thats a Pourboy beaver burn(homemade). As in Pourboy who make videos now. He probably has the molds still. I only have the big version.
Twin tails work good too. Couldnt get touched on the realistic 3d craw. Go figure?

Released to get bigger. Got on a 5/16 ounce jighead and 4" clear grub, 6 lb test line. 26.8 lbs, PB, my ...

Homemade chatterbait, 10lb mono.
I took me 10 tries to get her in the net. Evertime I got her head in, she would back out and shoot down. This fish knew exactly what a net was and exactly how to avoid it. I finally got her in because she was ...

Croakin' at Mariner's Basin...
Took a trip down Memory Lane with shrimp pump in hand. Historically, good bite on incoming tide and today followed the pattern. '
23 or so fish, seven species. Sand and Spotted Bass, round ray, dink halibut, a buttload of chunky yellowfin croaker, diamond turbot and a rock wrasse.

Re: Surface iron setup.
Let about a rod length of line out and cast in a pendulum motion rotating the rod to where the reel is upside down on the release. You can actually cast far with less energy.
Being smooth is key
If you have the room, a golf swing/pitch from the hip will actually cast further than over hand ...

Point Loma trip last weekend. Bahhhhh
We mostly fished the kelp at high tide with plastics, loaded up on grumpys in the bay afterward too. Total we got some small calicos, 1 legal sandbass, couple grass rockfish, and the kicker sheep.

It's great to hear you are out there rocking your life, George. It's always especially neat to hear that you and your grandpa are in on it together.

Re: Fishy Trips Potential Next Week?
Yeah, The San Diego is usually booked in advance and that's the case now.
I almost didn't go, but decided I would be happy even with a "boat ride" if I didn't catch anything.
I like the Grande because I can rest in a bunk if I want to. But they stayed in port.
However, I also like Mission Belle ...

Re: Fishy Trips Potential Next Week?
Just got off the Mission Belle. Landed 4 between 25 and a touch over 30, all fly line baits. 3 on the 70 year old jigstick and one on the 60 year old trueline. Tight lines and following seas my friends...
