El Cap Friday

Decent size Friday crowd on yet another cooler, breezier Late May day. WTH is the warmer weather? Anyway for the 3rd straight Cap trip, I caught a fish on my first cast. I can’t say that’s ever happened before. And then after thinking it will be WFO, it turns out to be anything but and just a slow ...

Re: Golden Bass

Bass have the ability to change their color to match the background, much like a chameleon. So bass caught in the weeds will have the classic green and black largemouth pattern and I have seen fish caught in the open water be light green and almost silvery.

Re: otay sucks bad!!!

Hard to believe this is the same lake as Spring 2018. The jerkbait bite was the most wideopen I have ever seen. The only hotter SD bass fishing that I have seen better, was poaching Barrett in the 80s. No joke, the back of Harveys Arm, it was wide open like tuna fishing. Shad were spawning and we ...

Re: Golden Bass

The markings/no markings usually comes from where the fish are, if they’re relating to cover or open water, and water clarity. Guarantee if you catch some schooling open water fish, they will have a bland pattern at best

Re: otay sucks bad!!!

Lol if you’re fishing “the outside edge” of the tullies, you’re wasting your time. You need to be fishing braid or 20lb flouro and getting your bait into spots you’re not certain you could land a fish if you were bit. Or, find the fish offshore that are chasing bait

Re: San V Monday chow time...

Nice..5.35 on a frog! Rods, don't make them like they use to...some of my favorites are 30-40 years old and still ticking!

I remember you telling me you got your rods shortly after the Korean War. They sure have held up well. :-)

Funny! I actually do have a couple bamboo fly rods that my ...

Re: otay 6/7

I think all the flooded brush and tulles is the problem. They are all way back in untouchable water.

Re: Soft Plastics Colors and Combos

I remember back when guys would swear the fish were so dialed in they’d say “they’re only eating choc/blue vein with red flake. Regular chocolate blue won’t get bit”. I loved tight line worms. When I first started shore pounding as a kid, it was The Worm Store hand pours and Magic Worms

If anyone ever sees me fishing a dropshot, I’m basically on life support at that point and may need a defibrillator

Re: Soft Plastics Colors and Combos

My favorite color Worm is not really a color. Black. Straight, no flakes, glitter, Curly tail. I mostly bought 8 inch and cut/melt the tip with matches, not a lighter, for length. Lighters leave a smell. Texas Rig, Wacky, wacky with a nail. My Dad showed me those techniques in the 60s. Funny how ...

Re: Lake Hodges yak flip

Dang, bummer. Those are hard to flip especially on a lake. Hopefully it was because he was trying to land a 20lb bass…that’s the story I’d give any way haha

If I am not mistaken, Hodges is still the only lake in Calif to produce at 20+ lbs bass, that does not stock trout.

Bummer!That's a lot ...

San V....warming up

I thought it's almost July...didn't feel like it at 5:00 this morning! I woke up to 47 degrees...it should be more like 60 this time of year! The fish didn't seem too happy either! The first 3 hours were cold and foggy and the fish weren't having what I was throwing! Then the sun came out and the ...

Re: San V....warming up

Looked for you out there yesterday. Didn't find you. Same thing for me...foggy, cool in the morning and no bites. Caught my 1st one at 10:41 and the second one at 11:25...both on my black frog. Missed to blowups and missed a hook set on a drop shot in the Toll Road Arm. Left the lake at noon.

Been two weeks since I was there, was an interesting trip. Here's my report from back then...

Re: Otay

I fished it yesterday (July 4), first time this year although it's in my neighborhood. It looks like there would be fish everywhere. I got a fluke fish in the first hour. Fished until about 10:30 and only got one other bite flippin' a worm. I'm guessing it was a bed fish because it bit below the ...

Re: Who makes this bait?

Little creeper trash gill or a rip off because the pec fins look different unless they changed the mold. They get bit. Get a bottle of mend it.
