Re: Hodges
I rode Hodges today around 10:45 and notice that the banner was being put up at the concession stand, so I asked the all important question about opening. The unofficial/official word on the street (parking lot) is May 31st, Hodges will be open for fishing! The launch ramp will not be open, so no ...

San V 5-27
I was finally able to get out on the boat after a couple month hiatus, so I decided to go to San V. I was surprised to pull up at 5:45 and only see about 11 trailers in the parking lot on Memorial Day weekend.
As I was prepping the boat to launch (cleaning all the cob webs off), I got a chance to ...

Re: Hodges
Thanks a lot G! If we can get some pictures along, you are a hero!
Here are a couple pics from about 20 min ago. Based on what I saw, there's about 20 kayakers and a few float tubers around and a good amount of shore pounders. I could only imagine what it looked like this morning. Hopefully ...

NFC Blanks
I've got some NFC ~ North Fork Composite (Gary Loomis) blanks available for sale. NFC blanks are the same blanks used to build Edge rods. I ordered these awhile back with ambition of building these swimbait rods, but I've transitioned more into building saltwater rods.

Re: Hodges was Hot (and the weather, too)
Awesome repot, jig fishing can be a lot of fun at Hodges.
I have had some of my best counts in the least amount of time fishing from 5 pm to 7:45-8pm during the summer especially in the month of August and that's fishing a 300 yard stretch too. There's something to be said about those golden hours.

Re: Fuego!
@CorsoEnthusiast it was a good morning for sure. Definitely a finesse bite, even though I was lucky to get a couple on top water.

Re: Bass Fishing
This is a dangerous request, lol....
You're likely to get a lot of different opinions on this, so I'd just suggest you pop into one of the local shops around Santee and Lakeside and you'll get a wealth of knowledge and grab "the bait/s" you need to get you some green bass.

Re: giant bass pictures???
Here's a 12 incher I got from Hodges this time of year several years ago. I caught it on a "glide" cough cough hahaha It was never weighed or measured, just a pic and released. The hatch lid is 18" so you can assume the length.

Re: NFC Blanks
I've used their blanks a bit, and they're all a bit high on power and faster action than I was expecting. That said it's probably better for swimbaiters.
Yeah, these are all designed for swimbaiting and most are parabolic and niche specific, except for the blank that is rated 8-16oz, it's a ...

Re: Striper
when DVL gets their trout stock in the next couple of weeks, you can shore pound larger topwater (8" Lunker Punker) baits for the stripers They usually push the trout up shallow early in the morning to pick them off.

Re: Why do I feel the need to fish a big swimbait?
Welcome to the new addiction, haha.
Big bait fishing is a definitely a love-hate relationship. You'll put in a lot of hours on the water with the probability of low returns if you solely dedicate to this style of fishing. There is a learning curve for sure, just like in surfing, however once you ...

Re: Any idea what this old Swimbait is?
Looks like it might be an osprey swimbait. I used to have a few but they've been donated during some fishing trips at Skinner.

Re: Olivehain resoivoir-want to get as much info as possible.
Good luck on your excursion! There used (I'm sure they're still there) to be cameras up there that are monitored, as it was the case a few years ago. If you plan to ninja fish it, bring cheap gear and be prepared to leave without it if you get caught and a nice trespassing ticket.
