4/14 Reds and Reds

Great fishing on the DD for some taco eaters. Great time on the water, good time with friends.

I was stressed to fish a straight forward rig as possible. I fished 80lb to 40lb with 16oz of lead, 3/0s, wished I fished 5/0s.

Caught my 4 reds, my girl caught 4, and then I stopped fishing after ...

Shelter island mackerel any luck?

Thinking about heading out for some macks on the pier. Are they biting right now? I've heard the bite gets better into late spring when the water gets warmer.

The beans are coming ;)

Caught three beans in last two days, all on the LC. Weirdest thing ever. Out of all the years of throwing the LC in the surf, Sunday was the first time I had ever caught a bean with it, and then it happened again three casts later! 1/4” smaller than the first one, which was 19.25”. Then, it happened ...

Re: The beans are coming ;)

Nice! I definitely feel like those early season corbina are more opportunistic later in the season. I got one this year on a red perch fly and another one on a Texas rigged swimbait. I’ve caught a couple on LCs during grunion runs too. Not sure how they think they can fit one in those sucker mouths ...

Re: The beans are coming ;)

Excellent - As I've been taking the Coaster north for work I've been watching North Torrey and the conditions have been looking better and better. Gotta get the fly rod out there soon...

Hook for Grubs

What hook do you use for 2-3" grubs? I've been using a #2 Aberdeen for the longer grubs and a #3 beaked baitholder for smaller grubs. I'd like to find a #2 straight shank worm hook, but I don't think anyone makes them.

Re: Hook for Grubs

Owner makes the cover shot is size 2 unless you are talking like a bait holder hook with the barbs on it.

Sunday 4/9

Glad SDFish is back! I sorta lurked a lot but didn’t post often since I’m busy with school.

anyways, the beach I went to was still missing a lot of its sand from that one storm last winter (15 foot storm surge), and along with it a lot of the surf grass. didn’t seem to bother the leopards though ...

Re: Sunday 4/9

Nice little kitty. We do need some sand back, cobblestones to the ankles isn’t very fun at all.

Sheepy weekend

Back felt better. Wrap a back brace and let's do some moderate casting in the reefs. Again lost a big one that broke my 1/0 hook, but did land a few sheep over two sessions last weekend.

Start with "barely legal"

This one is legal for sure

Re: Maks

I went to the Shelter island pier last week but it was dead. Out of couple dozens of poles only a few macks and some smelt in 3 hours. I don't know if it's the water temp or something else that is affecting the bite. Gonna try again when the water temp gets above 65.

Del Mar 5/5 -- lots of jellyfish

Took a break from studying for finals and went out on the beach for 2 hours this afternoon, fishing the incoming tide. There were a ton of man-o-wars. It was very slow until ~6 pm, then the bass hit less than 30 seconds after a cast. Got the spotfin shortly after, then it was dead again until i ...
