Sweet Success

Got my best fish of the year (so far) today. Nice 22" vina. Knew it was a vamp when it went nuts on the surface. Fly fell out of its mouth at shore. Also tagged my first midshipman and smallest halibut.

Bambluegilled

Another bluegill outing this morning. Decided to go with some old school gear (older than fiber glass)

Decided to fish bamboo (fine Tonkin cane) today. Vintage Orvis "99" 7' 6wt made in the 1960s. Though marked for a 6wt it casts a 4wt line nicely. Fun rods. Paired with a Scientific Anglers System ...

I love that "smacking" sound.

So far only two topwater smacks this year.

Creek Wade 6/13

Decided to wade a local creek, and was able to pick up several sunfish although the bass wouldn't cooperate. Was using an olive beadhead bird of prey from tfs that has worked well in the past for pretty much everything, although as of late it hasn't worked the same. My guess is the continued cold ...

It's getting to be that time of year again for ...

... improving shore based bluegill fishing

Water is warming. Fish should begin spawning over the next few months.

If you are limit to being on foot and unable to fish deeper from a boat/tube/yak then the fish will be more accessible in the shallows in the morning and evening.

A couple from a two ...

Carpin’ at Lake Henshaw

Hit up lake Henshaw this morning for some fly fishing for carp which is one of my favorite yearly trips. The last few years there hasn’t been very many cloopers on the surface so I have been mostly nymphing using the drag and drop or dabbing techniques. Today the carp were not making them self ...

Checkers Time!

Fair to excellent Calico fishing the last 3-4 weeks. Even with the red tide at times, we could find fish in patches of clearer water, but the catching has been better since the water cleared.

Flies, jigs, spinnerbaits all about equally effective. I have only been using flies. Best catching occurs ...

AZ Gila Trout

Recently moved to Flagstaff AZ from San Diego, and I figured y'all would find this interesting. I have been fishing Oak Creek Canyon heavily, catching wild browns, stocked rainbows, and native Gila trout. The Gilas seem to love dries, especially hopper reaction bites when the fly hits the water ...

Re: TEMU, anyone?

2nd ali express. The vast majority of my purchases have been good. I primarily use it for simple stuff like hooks, jigs, swivels. There may be a dud or 2 in a pack, but I'm essentially getting 98 hooks for $2 shipped. Did also get a travel rod for $40 that held up well too. I'd imagine TEMU uses the ...

Re: What happened to the old SDFish?

The attacking is already starting. Just leave it in the past and get over it. Anyone can guess why the site is gone and we will probably never know. Keep it neutral and move on. Bashing has started. -spilt milk, water under the bridge… If someone sees that there is all ready badmouthing against them ...
