Slow and Hot 8-30

Well slow for us anyway. Got on it early. A far cry from the lightning storm of last trip. Water was down at least 2-3 feet from then too. Guess they expected a monsoon from Hilary and let a bunch go. Best call was the kid throwing a white spinnerbait putting me down by 4 right out of the gate. Nothing slow was working for me. Nor topwater. Lots of algae too. A few boils gave up some biters on swimming minnows. Anyway it was Barrett beautiful as always. Got out of there before the oven really got cooking. And thanks Laurie for dragging the road

Thanks for the report, I think it might be changing a bit on the busters. I'm going to try some other methods this weekend and I'll report. Last week I could see them coming up on the scope, but they'd stop short or boil for a couple seconds and go down. I saw a lot of fish lower in the water column, maybe we need to fish for what we can't see.

Hey Dave, we looked for you out there. The busters were a bit frustrating. Up and down fast. The rest of the usual Barrett bite seemed off too. Lots of possible factors. That full moon all night might not have helped either. I did try a deep diving crankbait for a bit too. No luck. A guy at the dock said he got a couple on spoons deep. You might be on to something going deeper

Thanks for the report John. I was wondering how the extreme heat, full moon, and tropical storm were going to impact things. Hopefully their lack of appetite means they will be extra hungry this Saturday! Because our crew doesn’t have many tricks up our sleeves

Hey Shawn…I might bet the farm that Saturday will be far different than yesterday for all of your factors plus the lowering of the water level. It always seems like abrupt level changes freak out the bass until they acclimate. You will have a much cooler day which by itself will make things more pleasant for your crew. Have a blast either way and I hope to see pics of those smiling faces holding their trophies!!

Has anyone graphed the thermal cline depth?

Hi John,
I couldn't make it yesterday, I had to actually work.

I'm going to try vertical jigging in deeper water. In the main lake it's 100 feet deep and there's a thermocline that seems to be holding bigger fish. I'll let you know, but I'm still chasing the busters, because that's the most fun.

Happy Hunting! There’s at least one 9 pounder out there

Caught this time of year too!

That's a great fish. I'll let him know I talked to you.
